I really really want Bragg. Kid has talent, would be a great fit in this new system. I hope they are recruiting him hard.

He has talent and baggage. And a questionable motor. The new staff and AD might not be willing to take on the baggage when he'd have to sit a year and there's a Badocchi out there that can play right away.

Haven't heard of many top schools knocking down the door to get him. I bet he winds up at a mid major.

His top 5: Arizona State, Cincinnati, Illinois, NC State and Xavier are the final five for Kansas transfer Carlton Bragg, source tells D1Vision.

Guess he wanted to be closer, but only so much closer, to his ailing father. Hear what they say, sure. But watch what they do. That's where the meat is.

This was my thought too. I guess half way across the country is closer than all the way across the country.

Moore must see writing on the wall. Hope he finds a nice place in Kansas. It's not Illinois but guess close enuff for him. ;)

Right but I think

Just to set the record straight on what exactly Bragg has done.

First incident: Bragg was accused of battery, then charges were dropped and brought against his accuser after video of the incident was found.

Bragg was suspended on Dec. 9 after he was charged with misdemeanor battery in Douglas County District Court. Bragg missed one game and was reinstated after the charge was dismissed Dec. 14 and the woman who accused him was charged instead.

The decision [to drop charges] by Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson came after the Lawrence Police Department obtained surveillance video that showed a woman shoving and pushing a man, according to a release from the prosecutor’s office.

Second incident was for marijuana paraphernalia:

Bragg was granted diversion Feb. 1 through the Lawrence Municipal Court after being charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. The six-month diversion agreement stipulated the case would be dismissed if Bragg completes diversion requirements. Bragg was ordered to pay $63 in court costs and a $300 diversion fee.

Bottom line here is that the first incident can't be held against him. He was attacked and then falsely accused. The second is a weed thing. Regardless of what you might think about weed, it's illegal in KS and he got busted for it. His diversion program will end in July (he likely won't leave KS before that) and he'll have essentially a clean record.

I see nothing here that would prevent me from going after Bragg. He doesn't have a history of violence, he was in good academic standing at KU, and wasn't kicked off the team there. He's leaving to get PT at a position of need here. If I'm BU, I go after him hard.

The weed thing sounds very similar to the Jerrance Howard situation back in Peoria a few years ago. Misdemeanor that is expunged after completing time or a program.

until we have filled 5 of the 6 ships, we will be recruiting him as hard as anyone else

We are not. Bragg was not approved by Whitman and co. to go after. We kept tabs on Bragg while he was vetted and last I heard he was a no go.

Interesting if true. Certainly possible that they know something that isn't public. One of the first things BU and JW would do is talk to Bill Self about him.

Yeah, I was gonna say, Underwood was in the Big XII at the time. It's not like he would be in the dark on this one.

If BU and Co did research and found Bragg isn't a good fit then I'm ok with that. Unless it has to do with some minor weed issues. Weed will be legal in 10 years.

It maybe legal in ten years. But companies and schools can ban its use by employees, students or players

How legitimate is The Bleacher Report, or how accurate, or whatever? Brian Pederson wrote an article, "Projections for College Basketball's Top Transfers in 2017-18". He writes about 5 or so transfers and where they will likely end up and for Bragg his "Projected destination" is Illinois. Certainly not saying he is right or it is a lock, but just pointing out that others still seem to think that Illinois is recruiting Bragg. But again, I have no idea how plugged in this guy is, if he has any insider info. (at least in regards to whether Bragg is being considered), or if he is as clueless as the rest of us (except for "HR217").

If anyone responds with something along the line that he is clueless, please explain why. Thank you.

Yeah, but then it turns into a slippery slope to boss/ coach/ whoever, banning you from a completely legal thing. Imagine if your boss came to you and said you can't smoke cigarettes (if that's your thing) or drink beer at home. It's one thing on the clock, at work, its a completely different ballgame to police someone for legal things in their own home.

If we're walking away from Bragg, it's not over some rinky-dink paraphernalia charge.

Agreed. And it was for paraphernalia not mary-jane itself. I am not condoning this at all. A pot pipe may be used for other things. Probably wouldn't be, but can be. I like CB as a player and hope we are going after him. I say he only has a half a strike against him. Yes I am in Colorado. Legal here but businesses do test for it and will fire someone over it.

Possession of drug paraphernalia should not even be a crime (even if the drug itself is illegal), but that's an argument for a different board.
