I don't see Illinois being able to attract an established coach with an impeccable record like Bennett, Gregg Marshall, or Miller. If Whitman can do it, great. More likely he would have to go after someone like Cuonzo Martin, Frank Martin, Buzz Williams, or Ben Howland. I assume Drew is not likely because he's only been at Vanderbilt one year.
Cuonzo Martin would be a solid choice. He has connections in St. Louis and he's proven he can recruit in the toughest places to recruit in Chicago, i.e. Morgan Park. He's recruited 5 stars in Jaylen Brown and Ivan Rabb.
His coaching record is solid. His team's conference records improved at each school while he was there.
Missouri St. (3-15), (8-10), (15-3)
Tennessee (10-6), (11-7), (11-7)
California (7-11), (12-6)
These are the important things to look for, IMO.
