A MAC coach with that kind of resume deserves to be mentioned. No more MAC coaches please.
The fact that you used the word "Big Ten average."
You need players, to be sure. But the coach needs to put those players in a position to win. Just look at what Keats did his first year at UNC-Willmington. He didn't have great talent overnight. He's a superior coach, at least for that level.
Monty would be great. Can't imagine any current recruit would not want the opportunity to play for him.
Credible coach. Give him a couple of strong recruiters and a strong administrator. Let him sell NBA dreams to borderline NBA talent.
Hope there is some legs to it.
Keatts is extremely well spoken, but I'm still firmly in the Monty camp. Just a step up from Keatts.
Is it too late to join the Keatts hype train? I think Keatts has the edge over Monty because he could come in day one and recruit where as for Monty it might take him some time.

I know there has been rumors around this and you have been touting Monty for a while, but do you think this really has legs? I'm firmly in the Monty camp as well.

What makes you say that?
I would be very happy with either of these coaches, and I believe they both have the "it" factor to get/keep recruiting rolling. Just curious why you think Keats has the edge.
Personally, I slightly hope for Keats more than Monty. Very slightly!
Groce takes his 5 and beats himself. Then takes your 5 and beats himself.
So you're saying that the average Big Ten coach is 'minimal to average' when compared to the field of college coaches?
Plus, Big Ten Average is not a word
In all seriousness, I didn't think it would be controversial to say that recruiting plays a bigger role in success at the college level than in game coaching.
I'm still firm that Monty is the one. I know over on another message board, they are saying that he's been contacted back door and that he has no interest in the college game. I think that is just merely smoke if true. The Hannah Storm interview says he wants back into coaching. The in laws wanting to come back to the Midwest, the oldest daughter at Wheaton, the Net Jets plane to PHX on 2/15 are all a lot of dots I know and may be nothing. I really like this video as did almost 500,000 others. Can you imagine showing this to a 5* recruit on how we develop big men. Some familiar faces in the video. I think the AA angle for both head FB and BB at one school would be interesting too. I can't think of too many schools where that would apply.

Time will tell. In the meantime off to D.C. for some hoops and bonding with my 2 Illini grad sons.
P.S. just saw your post JKat--interesting!!
Really appreciate you taking the time to respond. Let's hope JKat is wrong. No offense JKat.

Doing nothing isn't an option given his contract, so extending Groce should be a tough sell, and indicate JW is all-in on Groce. Let's face it, if you extend Groce after this season, you're putting YOUR job on the line for him. If he hires someone new and it doesn't work out, he could very well a pass for circumstances, and get another shot at it.
Lorenzo has to have some serious dirt on the Washington AD
