Is all this Monty Williams stuff coming up because I brought him up among a list of NBA coaches? Because I was really just spitballing.

If I have the power to add people to the list by sheer force of will, I'm pushing Tim Jankovich's name into the conversation damnit!

A good one don't know about his recruiting

If Whitman can get Monty, that would really be cool. Does Monty have any recruiting experience or college bball experience?

Hey man, I've championed Monty, I'm a believer. There's potential there! If people want a Lovie-esque hire, that's it.

And it's too early for Jankovich if you ask me. But I did add him to my spreadsheet on your sheer force of will, if that makes you feel better.

Monty was on Colangelo's FIBA World Cup staff that won a gold medal in 2014.:)

He, Theisen, Ryan Evan, and the others in that realm of Illini twitter aren't really folks I would listen to as a source

Hahaha, Ryan and Dariush will have good info occasionally because they stalk the heck out of players and sometimes the kids will respond through DM. When that's the case you'll know because Ryan will have his #Illiniswami hashtag out. Theisen will never have good info because he's actually a crazy person and might be tweeting from an asylum.

Again, that's why I said it was more for discussion. He has had some info on occasion which lead to my latter statement, but by no means am I only sticking to what he says.

Part of me has concerns about Georgetown and Keatts should Georgetown decide to realize they stink. But jobs opening above us on the chain is always an issue. Especially with KU and IU, because they can open jobs we wouldn't ever expect to be opened. I don't want to worry about the ripple effect.

Other openings will definitely affect us. I wouldn't expect Self or Crean to be in any trouble this year. What matters is winning, and Self is doing that. Crean, well he was winning until a few weeks ago. Yes, they've fallen off a cliff, but you can clearly point to injuries. With all his Creaning, you'd think they'd have more depth, but OTOH you're not gonna replace Blackmon.

Yeah, we talked about our injuries last year, but losing OG and Blackmon is comparable to if we'd lost Malcolm and Kendrick last year or something like that. You're talking about two top notch players. Plus they've already been down Hartman. They should probably bubble wrap Thomas Bryant

I'm not worried about a potential IU opening. I don't think any of our perceived candidates would be candidates for the IU job. I would say their best realistic option would be Greg Marshall. Next could possibly be Steve Alford? Brad Stevens is unrealistic for them at this point because he is having success in the NBA, but I'm sure there are IU fans out there who believe they can offer him enough money to lure him back into college.

Random fact: two of the NBA names that popped up here kinda out of nowhere - Monty Williams and Stephen Silas - share the same agent.

Whenever names just kinda float through the ether like that, you can usually bet there is an agent involved. No idea what that does or doesn't mean in this case.

Keatts or Martin

Keatts would not make me happy. It would be a very underwhelming hire, even if he is talented. We need a bigger name to get the fanbase excited again.

I think Keatts could really be a great hire but I'm very intrigued by Archie Miller as well with the success he has had at Dayton. I think Miller wants the NC State job and might be willing to wait another year to get it if they don't fire Gottfried next month. If its down the Keatts and Cuonzo I'd go with Keatts I think there is a higher ceiling with him but it could take a few years to get the players he needs.
