No my post was not precisely worded. He was panned in the Illini search that netted us Groce!
Oh sure.
Not by everybody though. He was #1 on my list, even ahead of Shaka at the time. (I didn't include Stevens though)

Bill Frieder....
The way I see it the problem in getting rid of JG is losing key recruits i.e., Tillman, Williams and others, with the possibility of losing individuals now on the roster, i.e., Lukas and/or Nichols. So how do you solve this problem? Bring in a proven winner who knows the Big 10 and has an ax to grind with his former school. I propose that the short term solution to launching JG is to back the money truck up and get Bo Ryan off the beach and let him hand select his successor after a 2 year commitment to the Illini. If he wants to stay longer, all the better, so he can groom his hand picked successor. Ryan is age 69 and was pushed out by the Wisconsin under allegations of an extramarital affair. He has a law suit against the university and the word was they forced him out before he wanted to go. Would he take the Illinois job? Who knows, but it wouldn't hurt to talk to him. Just for perspective for those who think Bo is too old, Coach K is 70.
Have we conceded that he is either going to NC State, Indiana or staying put?

The Keatts discussion is interesting, albeit re-hashing the same conversation held time and time again over the last few months.
Why are we not talking more about Archie Miller? Is this just pipe-dream land? Have we conceded that he is either going to NC State, Indiana or staying put? Archie Miller is a 100% no-brainer, if humanly possible, pleaseohpleaseohplease type hire.

I think what is so interesting about this, is how CONSISTENTLY excellent Miller has been. My signature has been my signature since Weber and I have not once felt cause to change it.
Dayton just came back from 16 down against Davidson on NBC Sports, FYI. 2 minutes to go, up 3.
Literally no one panned Chris Collins. Everyone saw that as the coup for Northwestern that it was.
Now, many might have panned that hire at Illinois, but lets not rewrite history here.
I don't personally feel as though Miller is in the same realm as Bennett. Primarily, I don't think Bennett is going anywhere. He may play the field to garner a raise at Virginia, but he is turning that job into a destination job.Agree with Matt. I think you have to at least call Miller and Bennett, but don't really see either of them being interested.

Guys, do not make this about "Illinois isn't good enough".
Archie to NC State has been a lead pipe lock this whole time.
Think of how we'd laugh and make fun of other programs fans who thought we wouldn't get a Lucas Johnson in the same sort of situation. Archie is that kind of figure at NC State. It's a done deal.
Are we adding Lucas to the list?

He's apparently teaching high school now. A friend met him at some teacher conference thing.
I honestly find this hard to believe. His resume was so different from Keatts', the resume that has you losing your mind, that it does not make sense that Collins would have excited you.

Are you saying Archie to NC State is a lock?
These 2 resumes don't look that different but o were the results.
Kim Anderson was a D1 assistant for about 15 years at Mizzou and Baylor. He took over a D2 program, won 75% of his games, won a D2 national championship and had several final 4s. Returned to his alma mater where he was worshipped and went down in flames in a weak basketball conference. Melissa Click and all that stuff notwithstanding.
Bo Ryan won 81% of his games at D3 and 4 national titles but it was D3. Had two very mediocre years at UWM and was hired at UW. I remember it well. Kohl had just been built and Wisc was shooting for a star. Ryan was not first choice, or second, or third. When he was hired I remember a national writer saying that Wisc thought they could parlay their new digs into a top tier coach but none were interested and they (his words) "finally settled on Bo Ryan". It was almost condescending.
Hiring coaches is a crap shoot normally and sometimes dumb luck is part of it but not counting interims, I have seen 8 athletic directors and JW strikes me as the best and maybe by a lot. I trust in JW
I thought there had been recent rumors tying Keatts to NC State?
Tomorrow should be quiet.
