That's why I hope Howard stays. While you can do worse than Howard, I suspect Michigan will do better. Now I hope Nurse goes to Lakers.If Michigan opens, Nate Oats will be one at the top of the list and he would be interested.

They love Oats down here in Alabama. I don't think he is going anywhere and with the money generated by the football program that is not a problem either....If Michigan opens, Nate Oats will be one at the top of the list and he would be interested.
Howard is killing it as a college HC. In his third season, he already has a Big Ten championship, an elite eight, and a sweet sixteen. Beyond the obvious personality issues, why do we act like he’s not a good coach?That's why I hope Howard stays. While you can do worse than Howard, I suspect Michigan will do better. Why are we even discussing this? We want Brad staying and we are not selling our house.Michigan is a challenging basketball job.
* Football school
* High expectations
* NIL levels the playing field so their bagmen cannot deliver Fab5 etc.
* Tough conference
I think IL basketball is actuall more attractive
* Basketball school
* Lower expectations. Never won an NCAA championship, Last 10 years prior to Brad - bad teams
* Competing with NIL
* Same conference
The question I've often wondered but never asked on Loyalty.Why are we even discussing this?
Bold proclamation: the days of Illinois losing a head coach to ANYWHERE are over.I don't like that. With OA already at Kentucky, I'd be worried about Underwood getting an offer. Nope nope nope.
Idk about ANYWHERE…..but it’d take a high level job that’s for sure. But I do think Brad retires hereBold proclamation: the days of Illinois losing a head coach to ANYWHERE are over.
The only Blue Blood with a coach potentially on the hot seat next year, depending on how the year plays out, is Kentucky.In theory, after Brad wins us a championship next year, which blue blood would be most likely to make a run at him?
None of the blue bloods are going to have a coaching vacancy; any job would be a lateral move for Brad at best and I don't see him moving laterally with all the success he's had, and all the support he has from JW.In theory, after Brad wins us a championship next year, which blue blood would be most likely to make a run at him?
I mean, Self could..... Sorry, i can't even pretend to think anything will actually happen to Kansas. I agree, I think we're in for a pretty legendary run of success.None of the blue bloods are going to have a coaching vacancy; any job would be a lateral move for Brad at best and I don't see him moving laterally with all the success he's had, and all the support he has from JW.
Fine - we’ll lose coaches to the NBA. But would any Michigan fan expect to lose a coach to UNC or Kentucky? MAYBE, but I’d say no. This job is as good as Michigan, no questions asked. We have just as good of a tradition, better facilities, better fan support (AND less demanding fans), a better recruiting base, the same national exposure and we’ve recently shown that we have an AD capable of getting the donors on his side and digging into the war chest to spend big bucks.Idk about ANYWHERE…..but it’d take a high level job that’s for sure. As far as I know, Illinois has only lost two basketball coaches to other schools: Gene Bartow to UCLA, and Bill "I'm here for the long haul" Self to Kansas. Hope you are correct: no more.Bold proclamation: the days of Illinois losing a head coach to ANYWHERE are over.
Yep! Lost to Kruger to the NBA, which happens to the Blue Bloods. Meanwhile, we have swiped successful coaches from the likes of Florida and Oklahoma State?? Those aren’t exactly nobodies.As far as I know, Illinois has only lost two basketball coaches to other schools: Gene Bartow to UCLA, and Bill "I'm here for the long haul" Self to Kansas. If Brad wins it all next year, we are going to make a statue (or two) for him and match whatever salary other school will offer so he won’t go anywhere else (except for maybe NBA.) What if we only go to Final four but not the champion? Oh I will dream it and only worry about losing him when we get there.In theory, after Brad wins us a championship next year, which blue blood would be most likely to make a run at him?
Im no insider, but I would be more than surprised if BU went to any NBA teamIf Brad wins it all next year, we are going to make a statue (or two) for him and match whatever salary other school will offer so he won’t go anywhere else (except for maybe NBA.) Not until he wins two championships for Illini in the next five years.Im no insider, but I would be more than surprised if BU went to any NBA team
I wouldn't use what Bill Self did to determine which tier the Illinois coaching job should be placed.He accepted the Arkansas job verbally and when he told Guenther, Ron was able to talk him out of it. Illini fans may think this is a destination job, but college basketball coaches don't. It still is considered a second tier job. Ohio State is considered a better job than Illinois from a coaches standpoint.

We shouldn't kid ourselves...we are a very good job and for most coaches a destination job, but in terms of prestige it falls below OSU, UM, MSU and IU. IU has the history, UM and OSU have the $ and carryover from football (as well as comparable history to UI) and MSU has 20+ years of success under Izzo. We are still dealing with close to 15 years of irrelevance; a few more years like the past 3 and we can start to argue we deserve to be ranked higherHe accepted the Arkansas job verbally and when he told Guenther, Ron was able to talk him out of it. As has been stated previously, we took our current coach from another power conference school one year into his contract. It's the second time in the last five coaches we've pulled that off. Second-tier is extremely relative. The number of schools ahead of us is very small. Ohio State might be marginally, but when you take into account the amount of money we are pumping into the program between our coaching staff and facilities, that gap is closing rapidly.He accepted the Arkansas job verbally and when he told Guenther, Ron was able to talk him out of it.
