I agree. They'll be looking for a guy with a record of success at the national level. Big names with deep tournament runs. That's not Underwood (yet).

I would doubt it. Michigan can get a lot better name than Martelli. Guys like Oats and Musselman would be in play I'd think.
Juwan might be better off in NBA. Quinn Snyder was mediocre at Missouri avg 18- 13 in 7 years.
Quinn has been very successful at Utah Jazz for past 7 years. After two sub 500 seasons he is typically around 50 wins which as a #3 seed in western conference.

Coaching is a small circle, and you know a lot of people through other people.
One connection in basketball can get you a lot more connections ... Especially with HM coaches.
If Michigan opens, Nate Oats will be one at the top of the list and he would be interested.

Due to buyout costs, I suspect Oats is out until at least 2024. Mussleman is viable for 2022-23. Their current contracts are:
Nate Oats: 3.2M/yr, with a buyout of:

I always liked Martelli. Good coach, can spin a yarn better than most. I felt that, with his success at St. Joe's, he'd be a highly sought after coach for a P5 gig. And he'd do well at a bigger program. On the other hand Michigan alumni would probably have the pitchforks out if there was a bigger name out there for the taking and the AD didn't go after 'em.

No doubt. I hate them with the heat of a thousand suns, but Michigan is a template for how a top-ranked university can have excellent revenue sports. If Howard follows the money and sunshine, Michigan will come up with the funds for the person they want.
Oats still hasn’t shown me enough personally but agree on muss. Guy is a complete animal
I think Martelli would be an upgrade for Michigan coaching, unfortunately.
Martelli is an excellent x&o guy but not much on the recruiting trail.
