No way Underwood gets a look. Their fans could never see past his lack of Sweet 16s
I agree. They'll be looking for a guy with a record of success at the national level. Big names with deep tournament runs. That's not Underwood (yet).

Today I listened to a lengthy discussion on AM 570 LA Sports about possible candidates to coach the Lakers. Several current NBA coaches were mentioned and so was Calipari. No mention of Howard.

Noticed that Rob Judson was announced as an assistant on the new staff at ISU today (his second stint there). Link

Hard to believe that it has been more than 20 years since he was an assistant at Illinois, but I digress...

Haha, I wouldn't want to deal with dissecting that drama ... Worse than a bunch of HS girls.

I do know a few people on the Vogel staff though, and that's what they told me.

Also quite a few AAU coaches talking about it in Indy this past weekend ...
But is it worse than JH girl drama?

Beilein could have just about any CBB job he wants if he makes it known he's available. He may be content with retirement.
Beilein is currently with the Detroit Pistons. Player Development. He is very happy.

Juwan might be better off in NBA. Quinn Snyder was mediocre at Missouri avg 18- 13 in 7 years.

Quinn has been very successful at Utah Jazz for past 7 years. After two sub 500 seasons he is typically around 50 wins which as a #3 seed in western conference.

I don't want Michigan to bring Beilein back. He was too good.

Oats (Alabama) or Musselman (Ark) would be a monster in Ann Arbor.

If Michigan opens, Nate Oats will be one at the top of the list and he would be interested.

If Fichigan opens up, I'd just hope any new coach's style of play is one that helps continue to push the league toward more fluid, modern concepts style of play and away from overly physical bump and grind basketball.

Due to buyout costs, I suspect Oats is out until at least 2024. Mussleman is viable for 2022-23. Their current contracts are:

Nate Oats: 3.2M/yr, with a buyout of:
2021-22$12.6M
2022-23$9.8M
2023-24$7M
2024-25$2.4M
2025-26$0

Musselman: 4M/yr with a buyout of:
2021-22 $7M
2022-23 $2M
2023-24 $1M
2024... $0.75M
Exception: If he goes to USD after April 2024, the buyout is 0.

I would doubt it. Michigan can get a lot better name than Martelli. Guys like Oats and Musselman would be in play I'd think.
I always liked Martelli. Good coach, can spin a yarn better than most. I felt that, with his success at St. Joe's, he'd be a highly sought after coach for a P5 gig. And he'd do well at a bigger program. On the other hand Michigan alumni would probably have the pitchforks out if there was a bigger name out there for the taking and the AD didn't go after 'em.

I feel like the hubris of the Michigan fan base will lead to their donors ponying up if asked

Oats still hasn’t shown me enough personally but agree on muss. Guy is a complete animal
