Wow. He makes about 1 million dollars a year at Iona, which is nothing to shake your fist at, but you figure at a place like Maryland he'd make 5x that. Wonder if he wants to prove a point about his coaching. If he can turn Iona into a legit team his legacy may be turned around a little.
I don't think the problems with his legacy are related to coaching.

I know that was the original plan and that he’s had injury problems, but his stats don’t scream one and done. Never seen him play, but was pulling for him cuz of the great story of highly ranked recruit going to small school to play for dad.
Not the stats for NBA. He's a year removed from being a highly ranked high schooler. NBA hasn't forgot that and their talent evaluation remains at least similar. His stats are over like 10-12 games IIRC. NBA will just make their talent evaluation and take him. Staying in college basketball is unlikely to vastly improve his draft stock.

His dad got hired with him in mind. No great story here. Just more corruption.

I managed to catch a couple of their games on ESPN+ when he was playing. I can see why NBA scouts are intrigued. He has an NBA body, can handle the ball and is a good passer. Unfortunately, I don't think playing for his dad did him any favors. He got a LOT of attention from opposing defenses, and did shot the ball well. (That is being kind) He is a willing passer, probably too willing considering his talent relative to that of his teammates.
I think his numbers would look a lot more palatable if he had teammates who could help him out more. Obviously playing in only 11 games due to various physical ailments significantly affected their chemistry, but those numbers are ugly...

I think Martin will be back next year. Mizzou athletic dept is deep in the hole and his buyout drops considerably after this year. I'd be surprised if he's gone this year.
Lot of internal pushing from curators for Sean Miller. But yes, buyout is huge right now.

In their defense, Moser was a complete disaster as a HC at Illinois State. Actually, Moser has never finished better than 5th place in the conference his teams play in without Cam Krutwig. That covers the Sun Belt, Horizon, and Missouri Valley. Never made the NCAA Tournament without Krutwig either and it appears that this year is going both of those directions also.
Yeah, that’s the perception I have too. Moser seems like an Average to B+ coach that sorta rode Krutwig & Co.’s coattails to Oklahoma. The jury’s definitely still out on him IMO…

Krutwig was a fun player to watch and obviously QUITE effective for having limited athleticism …looks a little more like a church league softball player
than a D1 center but he made it work.

We’ve more than done alright. But, I secretly wish we would have had Krutwig in Orange to play some Hi-Lo with Kofi.

And call me crazy, but he was considered the number 1 recruit for 2021 and held a Duke offer when he was 15. Safe to say he was in radars at the age of 14.
"Let's hire this guy so we can maybe get 1 good player in his 5th year on the job," said no AD ever.

Baldwin was an assistant at Northwestern for the 1st 4 years of Collins' tenure, and was hired after they had just made their first ever NCAA tourney. That program was riding high and Chris Collins' reputation was at its peak. Baldwin was probably hired because Milwaukee was hoping to tap into that kind of success.

Edit: Also, where was he ranked #1 in June 2017? What service is ranking 8th graders?

Lot of teams are going to look at the AZ 1 year turnaround and say why can't we hire somebody and go from .500 to #2 in country.

I suspect Gonzaga assistants are going to be hot commodity for a while- Go get them Roger!

Transfer portal and NIL is going to make the rich get richer as they raid mid majors and weaker programs for their top players.

Sorry, he was ranked #1 in June of 2018. I forget that colleges don’t look at 6’5” 8th graders that play on the perimeter and just wait until they hit high school. /s

You can disagree without making such a bid deal about it. I can point out that the timing is suspect that he didn’t get fired after the first 3 losing seasons, and that his contract was up at the end of the year but they still elected to fire him. It’s suspect and you really can’t say otherwise when the dude was being comp’d to Klay Thompson. Or are we pretending that lebron was never offered sponsorships as a freshman too?

I'm not really making a big deal about anything. I'm just pointing out that not everything is a conspiracy. If you honestly want to believe they tanked a basketball program for 4 years to get one guy, go ahead. Who am I to stop you? But it's certainly ok for me to point out why that's absurd.

As an aside, there's a big difference between offering a freshman a scholarship and hiring an 8th grader's dad as a head coach. In all the cases I can remember of programs hiring relatives, for the purpose of locking up a commit, it's typically been as assistants, and certainly not multiple years in advance of the recruit stepping foot on campus.

I hope that's true. The Big Ten has had some shady basketball coaches, but very few as high on the dirtbag scale as Pitino is.
it was on the espn scroll at the bottom of the screen just now ...........................
