Small needs to find some depth on this team. Ji didn't play well and the 3 Illini playing as individuals finished last in the field.

Lang didn’t play too poorly but point taken. Ji has not played up to expectations this year but that can change quickly. I think they have their 5 with Jackson Buchanan taking hold of the 5th spot. I know Illinois has tremendous indoor facilities but a tournament in February is a bit of a challenge for these guys. I am sure Small wouldn’t use that as an excuse but seems like it would have some effect for sure.

The 2 team's that beat us (Fl. St. and UAB) have been able to be on the course every day all winter. Illini - not so much. Will take time for us to catch up.

anybody now why Keating wasn't involved in the trip?

overall fine result, I do think Ji needs to find his next gear, that guy is a par making machine when he is going, right now has been making more mistakes then normal

Hunt had a horrible round. Hopefully he can get back to normal today. We are still playing catchup to the more southern schools. This is our most inexperienced team in quite a while and it will take time to gel. We have two guys who have never played at this level before. Hunt is going to be special. Ji needs to play better. Lang needs to see some action as a counter score. Small has a tough task to get the team ready by regionals. But he can do it.

I was impressed with Hunt in the tournament I saw on TV, so I was surprised at his score — but happens to everyone I guess. Hopefully they can come back some in last two rounds.

What a strange first round. They were -7 after the front 9 and then imploded on the back 9. Hopefully they can fight back to the middle of the pack.

Just took a glance at another tournament going on, The Cabo Collegiate. ASU is ranked #2 in the country and is next to last in that field right now. This sort of stuff happens in golf. Illinois has a really good team. Probably not good enough to truly contend for a national title this year but still really good.
