I don’t think I’ve ever commented outside of the basketball forum but here goes.

Even though I played a couple years of soccer as a kid in the early 80s, I’d typically been of the “soccer is boring” until my kid starting playing and I started coaching her. Which led to countless games of FIFA on PlayStation so I could teach her what offsides was. Since then, I’ll regularly watch Premier League games and international Friendlies whenever that are one.

I’m excited about the games, but I can’t wait to see the covers ups that occur when things don’t go as planned with thinking you can keep thousands of crazed soccer fans happy when drinking is such a part of their match routine. Already videos out of foreign press just doing a report and some guy comes along and shuts it down with the guy saying “you invited the world to your country. We have all the credentials to film here.” I just think as the tournament goes, it’ll be a powder keg waiting to explode.

USA-Wales finish in a 1:1 draw.
That was a nut punch, given we seemed like we should be up 2-0 at one point. While I do not follow MLS or international club soccer that much (I'll watch and support BVB when I can but nothing like my passion for the Illini, for instance), the World Cup is likely my second favorite sporting event after March Madness. I pretty much watch the Super Bowl casually, I mostly just check in on the World Series if the Cubs aren't in the Playoffs that year, the College Football Playoff has gotten boring, etc. However, I live for these World Cup games - something we haven't gotten to see for the US in EIGHT YEARS! Even last World Cup, when I was forced to cheer for my second (ancestral) team Germany due to the Americans' absence, Germany laid a complete egg! Lol.

Today was not the end of the world, but we now must avoid a loss to England to feel good. And that will be tough. Tie England and beat Iran, and we will likely advance. Three points today would have been huge.
