^ Group Stage always makes my head hurt, but I think you are spot on with England. If we get a point vs. them and Wales loses, we are in a great position.

Absolutely. If we get a point vs. England and beat Iran, we'd be at 5 points... I can't imagine many teams with 5 points have ever failed to advance. I think the only way would be a 3-way tie for 1st. So indeed, if we take a point vs. England I would like our odds regardless of what Wales does.

Saudi Arabia leads Argentina 2-1 in the 90th minute. Would be one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history.

It was mentioned on the studio broadcast this morning that Harry Kane picked up an ankle injury in the Iran match Monday and is questionable for the match on Friday against the USA. As a USA fan I'm OK with that, as it definitely increases our chances. As a Spurs fan it makes me want to pull my hair out.

Japan comes from behind to beat Germany 2-1

Exciting 2nd half. Japan was clearly on the front foot, but as we all know, many a team has "looked the better side" for a half (or even a full match) and still failed to score. Nice to see them not only equalize, but pull off the win!

Perhaps a tad bit unfair but funny nonetheless.

Flops are a part of the game and I can’t stand it sometimes. There needs to be a rule change or something.

IMO, it's a pretty easy problem to solve. They need to do post-match reviews and assign yellow cards for diving. These yellows would count towards suspensions, etc., just as if they were issued in-game.

The NHL does post-game reviews with fines and public announcements to shame the players for diving. Seems to work pretty well.

Ah Zimmerman! I groaned after that penalty. Should have won that one!
US team parked the bus much too early (like basically the whole second half). Just like football, a prevent defense in soccer only prevents team from winning. What a nut punch. If US doesn’t advance will certainly be a perfect example of what might have been.

I’m not much of a soccer fan — basically watch WC and maybe a US match or two in none WC years. The flops are ridiculous and make the games almost unwatchable. While the sports popularity worldwide isn’t an issue, I do really think flopping has something to do with why the sport struggles with popularity in US. When there are regularly 10, 20, even 30 times more flops in a game than there is scores, there is an issue.
