Two years prior to last (22/23)
1A - Lena
2A - St. T
3A - IC
4A - SHG
5A - Naz
6A - ESL
7A - Mt. Carmel
8A - Loyola

The only difference above is Lena won the annual Northwest Upstate Illini 1A post season tournament. Althoff just snuck in for a year with a partial D1 team...into 1A :rolleyes:. That's the crappy part of the post-season but it doesn't take away from the overall tournament.

Good question. I'm not very familiar with Iowa. Indiana just lets everyone play. I prefer the Illinois format. 5 classes(original)/6 classes/8 classes, whatever, it's a great tournament. A few non-boundary schools do put a damper on it but it's still very good.

The three East players I mentioned actually did, but I know these things happen. However, it's still much, much harder than my kid (who is at LWE) wanting to attend Providence, Marist, Rice, or Mt. Carmel next year.

This part is very accurate. IHSA had is as good as can be and then let it go.

IHSA - been there, done that. Catholic league would just rework the teams schedules to get teams into a specific class.

You used a 2 year sample size. I know in 2021 public schools won more championships. The d1 althoff team lost to camp point in the playoffs the year before. People only complained when they started to win. That team had Hill and all those other studs and didn’t even make it to the 1a finals

In the future the ihsa will play 8 games and everyone will make the playoffs

No, those are the championship results from November of 2022. Considered the 2022-2023 football season.

If that happens it will only be because AD's are tired of making a schedule and administrators and coaches don't want the heat of not making the playoffs.

I'm not so sure it actually happens. There aren't that many AD's with scheduling issues and most of those are self imposed because they don't want to schedule a larger/better team.

Indiana does this and playoffs by size (6 classes), then region (called sectional) and then blind draw (I'm told).

I played 2A football and we played East Chicago Central HS (IN) my senior year. ~1,200 enrollment at the time. We lost by 8.

Iowa has districts. Where you play your district teams in a round robin tournament during the regular season. The top two teams make it out of that district to go to the playoffs.

16 teams per class, 8-man up to 5A, so 6 classes.

Only 5 of the games matter in the regular season, and those are the games you played against your district opponents. Those districts are within the boundaries of the class for which the school would compete. So, if your team is in 8A enrollment, you would play 5 other teams that are also in 8A enrollment. It could cause some problems if a team is in a large school, nowhere near anyone of their own size, and every game is a multiple-hour trip.

You would have 4 other games before the district started, during which you could play anyone you want, so you could protect traditional rivalries.

I honestly believe that, after making this post, most of the issues we complain about will be resolved. I have always disliked the idea of districts, but I never gave it too much thought.

East St Louis "recruits" with the best of them. There are always kids from Belleville, Collinsville, Cahokia, Granite City and StL playing for them. Actual bodily residency TBD.

Byron vs Iccp should be a very interesting game. ICCP has some good young talent but this is a veteran Byron team with some really good players. Game will be played in Byron. Last year Byron was a foot short of beating montini.

I was at that game last year. It was a good one. Montini let Byron hang around and almost got stung. They had two great playoff games in a row. Montini dropped a game winner the year prior.

That’s football. Byron doesn’t have half the athletes Montini does but was able to stay in the game with their style of play. I’m friends with a lot of people in the ICCP program but I think Byron wins
