I can’t see what video this was but I’m assuming it’s about Camp Point Central and West Central. My cousin was the starting quarterback for West Central. It was a tough loss because he’s a senior and it was his last game. His team was very young. 4 seniors total on the team.
Does he play basketball as well?

Coach Sichting was an assistant coach my senior year. Could tell he was gonna be a great one even back then.

I saw it ended 9-8. What happened?
Read an article in SJ-R that Porta scored their winning field goal on 5th down.
^This.

I posted the Fairfield live stream of the game in this thread. The final PORTA drive starts around the 2 hour 35 minute mark of the video. When you watch the video, you'll see that the PORTA QB was attempting to spike the ball on 3rd down but kneeled and then spiked it. Then on the next play, he spiked it. By the rule, that should have been a turnover on downs but for whatever reason the officials gave the Bluejays an extra down.

I know there's not much that can be done about it at this point for Fairfield as them contesting it with the IHSA probably won't end up changing the final result. But man I feel gutted for the kids from Fairfield to lose on a play like that.

Seriously, how does that not get caught. Wow

The selection show is tonight. I think some of these brackets have a chance to be really good. 8a and 6a specifically.

I wonder what half of the bracket LWE will fall in 8a. Do those 2 straight losses put them in the Mount Carmel side?

7a seems wide open to me.

Who will challenge ESTL in 6a? They won't be the 1 seed overall, so in theory a tougher road. A few more schools with a bunch of talent are in 6a. I'm pulling for Naz in they bracket.

I think Montini will repeat, but will have more challenges than just the 1 they had in 3a. Speaking of that challenge, does Byron just run through or do they get challenged by anyone.

Iccp can beat Byron. Naz will be the best team in 6a for east St. Louis to play. Fenwick plays tough they can’t pull off the upset.

Could it be a product of conferences the two schools they lost to play in?
Richland County aka Olney is definitely in an odd conference, they share it with 1A Casey-Westfield. I think they are biggest school there by a decent margin.

Mizzou fans can tell the Fairfield kids all about those dreaded 5th downs.

But how that result can be allowed to stand is ridiculous. Come on IHSA you have to be better than that.
I agree in principle, but the IHSA has long held that once the game ends & the officials leave the field or court, the game is final & no overturn or change will happen. There was a football game a few years ago in a higher class where the semi final had a real screwy ending that was easily reversible but the IHSA refused to change the result. That team (I forget who) got smoked by East St Louis in the final IIRC so all ended well.

Heck when I was in high school in the late 80's, our basketball team lost a 3 OT regional final where a player on the opposing team got 6 fouls (and scored points after the 5th foul). Later that year our coach showed me the "apology letter" he got from the IHSA but of course no change in result.

It is a bit of a pandoras box though that is probably better left alone. For the rare instances where a team gets outright ripped off, it would set up an avenue where all kinds of frivolous protests could be filed for just good ole bad officiating in games. There is a short turnaround on these games (especially in hoops) so there really isn't time for hearings, court injunctions or the like. And replay is a non starter other than at the championship game level as there is no uniformity in tv coverage from one tournament site or field to another until you get to the state finals.

I think it was Fenwick vs Plainfield North

I know it was someone in the suburbs & I was too lazy to look it up. Thanks!

Montini should roll all the way through. Morris is just a team that is down in class this year and can get a game stuck in the mud. They are physical.
I just like Richard's side of the bracket. I think they got a great draw. I really like DGN, but their path is tough.

I would guess Batavia makes it to the finals not Richard’s. In 4a my pick from the south would be Rochester

CG in 5A this year…can’t recall the last time that happened (ever?). Most years are 6A with the occasional 7A.

So is Prairie Ridge, for that matter. Was there some change in the enrollment / class rules I missed? Or maybe we are just shrinking. 😆

There aren’t set classes. The biggest 32 schools go 8a then the next 32 go 7a..etc that’s why a school like Glenbard west goes back and forth from 7a and 8a

The other thing is towns like Hampshire,Huntley, Plainfield ..etc have grown rapidly and that pushes down other schools. I did look it up and CG enrollment has dropped a lot over the last 7 years but that’s common since birth rates declined after 2008.
