He’s not wrong. Honestly, these guys are LOSING more money than what they’ll make in their entire basketball careers. As the financial advisor, you absolutely have a hand in that. And yes, it goes beyond just “wanting to play in the league.”

At the end of the day, the finances are the finances.

Source?

They're taking maybe $1-3 million less this season, but if they make it to a second contract in the NBA the amount they'll gain by having gotten there a year earlier will likely eclipse the loss. And there's no guarantee that draft stock doesn't go down after another year in college. A player hypothetically could play himself out of the draft entirely or suffer a serious injury, thereby costing himself tens of millions in lifetime earnings. Jayden Quaintance probably would have been a top 10 pick, maybe even top 5, after his freshman year, but he was too young to declare. Coming back to college probably cost him between $10 and $15 million on his rookie contract.

Yeah there is legitimate value for some guys in getting with and practicing with an NBA teams.

I would expect that Meleek Thomas, Evans, and Veesar were probably aware that they might not go in the first and probably have guaranteed offers lined up in the 2nd to stay in.

It also kind of goes both ways where some guys stay in school and likely will never get drafted now. The NBA can really cool on guys that stick around and don't make huge jumps.

Tahaad Pettiford likely gets drafted last year and now looks like a guy that should play 5 in 5. I kind of think Tyler Tanner will follow that path after staying in school this year since it's rough for small guards.

Do you think the new Dallas coach has seen Morez and Mara play and likely influenced who was taken????
don't think May was the decision maker but based on the news, he clearly provides inputs.

There has been 6 Illini and former Illini that have been selected in the first round the last 3 years. Underwood and crew know how to recruit.
Underwoods exceed even their own expectations by putting a player into top 5 this year. They are smarter than they thought. 🤣🤣🤣

I know he wont be drafted but look at who is showing up on ESPN's best available at the bottom. Hope we see him in some summer league action nailing a few threes

So Braden Smith got drafted at I think 38 by the Bulls and right away traded to the Pacers for a player, draft swaps and cash.
