I know, what a choke job by Drake... they played scared for the final three minutes

with 20 secs to go Miami hit the 3 pt shooters hand, no foul. Miami very handsy on press and half court defense for last 5 minutes. somehow only 7 fouls in the half. Drake discombobulated
I chalk this up as another outcome decided by refs on how they allow the game to be played.
its not always that they call it evenly - its what they decide to allow or disallow one one team to do versus what another team does
Same thing happened in X comeback

Not really. Painter has been at Purdue, what... like 3 times longer than BU has been at Illinois?

I get that just comparing their track records to this point of having more success in the regular season than the NCAA tourney.

Real glad we didn't draw IU's game time. Gonna be 1 in the morning before that one's over.

Agree with you. But I have a complete and total lack of expectation that the B10 will even consider addressing their officiating. If they have not by now, it will never happen. They like getting 8 or 9 teams into the dance and do not care what happens after that.
Big Ten refs look good compared to some of the phantom calls I have seen so far or no calls

I agree the Big Ten needs to adjust things
I think a possible solution is allowing more crews officiate and that would prevent teams knowing how Larry DJ or Kelly will call things. It would make them have some uncertainty in if they can be aggressive or not

But honestly PU Illinois loses weren’t because of refs. MSU NW PSU MD all seemed to play just fine

FDU played the way BU wants us to play….hair on fire. He just wasn’t able to get the buy in with our crew this year. Harris and Rodgers types. Problem is both of them can’t shoot the ball at all. When they put up Sencire’s FT% at 22% OMG….tell me it isn’t true.
this type of player is the opposite of what Mayer is. When we recruit the transfer portal we need to look at their personality as wellb

I was talking in general terms not specific games this year. I thought the refs were fine for our game. But, by and large, year in and year out, Big10 teams are not prepared for the tournament. You can't argue with 22 years of no champion from the league. Well, you can, and I know some will, but in my opinion the way the league manages their product on the floor absolutely contributes to less competitive teams.

Really like your idea of more crews rotating throughout the league. When there are multiple pre-game tweets on who the officiating crew is for every game, you know you got a problem!

Hmmm, Penny Hardaway just said "we got some movement and quit playing as individuals." Never heard or seen such a thing, but im an Illini fan, so that's to be expected

Honest, non snarky question. Why are you comparing us to Purdue?

Umm, because they won the B1G this year and everyone was singing Matt Painter praises all year - i.e how he always has successful out of timeout plays, etc. Matt Painter is an excellent coach. Good coaches can lose several games in the tourney, including ones that they should win. His three loses were far worse that BUs and there are people that think we should be looking for a new coach as a result of BU's March loses. Would we do better than Matt Painter?

A lot of excellent coaches lose in the NCAA tourney. To be successful in the tourney is hard. It is a lose and go home deal - only 25% (1 in 4) of the teams get to the second weekend.

Who do you think we should we deserve to be compared to? Kentucky? Cal hadn't won a tourney game in 1400 plus days til today. North Carolina - they aren't even here. Michigan - is Juwan such a better coach because he managed to win a few more games in March the last couple of years.

In the sweep of 22 years I wholeheartedly agree, but it's nowhere near as bad as it was a decade ago when the Big Ten truly wasn't playing the same sport.

Just keep plugging away at that progress, I guess.

ASU leading TCU at half by 7. ASU is shooting 59% for the half including 6 of 10 from the 3 point line.

Hoosiers up 3 versus Kent State late in the first half.

I'm not going to go through and look at the numbers again but I'm confident that Painter's careers at Purdue (wins, conference, titles, tournament appearances, final fours) is totally underwhelming compared to the peak of our program. Which is to say, he hasn't taken Purdue anywhere we haven't already been. So why would I trade him for Underwood? He has done fine for Purdue but he still hasn't taken them to a final four in twenty years. I've said it before, if Underwood only does at Illinois what Painter has done at Purdue, I'd rather find another coach. I want to win a Natty. Winning a Big Ten title once or twice a decade doesn't cut it for me.

If we were a 4-seed like Indinia, we could have drawn Kent State and Sincere Carry…
