Because they can I guess. I personally would like to see these 4 games be at large teams playing their way into the field of 64. The last 8 teams that were on the bubble and let all of the 16 seeds that won their conference tournaments enjoy the moment of being in the tournament. I just don't care about the 16 seeds playing each other knowing they are going to get flattened by a 1 seed. At least let them have the opportunity of getting beat down in the actual tournament.
