Say what you will about Izzo has a human being but the man knows his ball. Especially in March.

I like Izzo. This is the first time I've publicly admitted it on this message board because I think he mostly gets haters here. And to be fair to the haters, he's said/done some things over his career that deserve criticism. How many coaches have a better resume than his though? Maybe half dozen? HOF coach, natty, lots of FFs, and with a few exceptions, has been really solid in March. And he's got a helluva a class coming in this fall.

But he yells, sometimes directly in his players' face...there's no way he can possibly connect and get through to today's athlete.

Meanwhile, Shaka is doing breathing exercises during a timeout. They're both good at their jobs?

Love FDUs relentlessness and hockey subs. They have like several mini versions of Sencire on their team going all out all game

I lost count. How many blue bloods left? No Duke, no Kansas, no Kentucky, no North Carolina, hmm.

I’m conflicted. With Illinois’ inability to get out of the first weekend with above average talent, excluding the fluke teams; why do teams with equal or lesser talent regularly make it? I’m overrating our players? Underrating other teams players? Inferior coaching for Illinois? Over thinking?
Two things have brought much parity to college hoops.
1. Three pt. arc. Though teams shoot around 45% from the floor, they shoot around 33% from the arc. Coaches did not allow low percentage shots before the three pt. arc was introduced, unless you were Rick Mount...but now, if they can score 3, good shooters have the green light and teams can spurt big numbers in a hurry...or vice versa.

2. Energy - just look at FDU. Heck, look at Mizzou against Princeton. Mizzou brings megawatt energy to the Braggin Rights game every year...and especially when Illini fans are talking unfounded smack and disrespecting their team. FDU to the man was quicker than Purdue, and figured out a way to use that to win.

These two combine to give the "lesser" teams motivation and momentum...and sometimes it lasts for 2 hours.

Maybe I am totally ignorant, but those two are blatantly obvious.

You also have to add in the players leaving school early. Some of the programs that have been causing upsets have guys that are both old and playing together a long time. The others from the high majors have impact recruits with a mix of college vets. It seems you have to have at least 2 of the 3 main ingredients (high major talent, experienced players, continuity within a system) yo advance in this tournament.

Also, there's so luck between the match up you get as well as some teams being underseeded or overseeded.

Kalkbrenner might be the best CBB screener I’ve seen for some time…
A lost art that produces a lot of scoring opportunities.
(Would be nice to see the Beloved improve on this skill.)

Creighton handling Baylor - one of the few bracket picks I’ve gotten right this year.
