I know we want to play 5 out, and Tomi has been terrific this year, and I know Dain has his flaws as a player and he got a bag at Memphis, but that’s an awfully effective player we let walk.

Particularly in a single elimination tournament. There are a non trivial number of teams that just can’t handle him down low. Just a really nice pressure release valve to have that i think we lack this year.

Yeah, never could understand his reluctance.
My enduring memory of Dain is that steal against Iowa State in the high post and his behind-the-back dribble directly into a turnover as he crossed midcourt. Probably the most completely exuberant play I've seen from any player in years. It exuded unbridled hoops joy. Immediately after that occurred I looked over at one of the other monitors in the bar where I was, which was showing the final seconds of UNC v. Alabama, ending in a Bama win.

The Bama elephant was dancing. I lol'd.

Plenty of us liked him. He was one of those players that Brad didnt like to play for whatever reason.
Dain was unwilling to take and miss 3pt shots at a historic pace so clearly not a good fit...sorry, I promised I was going to turn the page on the regular season. I miss Dain, and I hope he continues to do really well.

As for us, the regular season is behind us and I've waited approx 350 days for today...ILL!!

Completely understand Dain no longer being an Illini. His role at Memphis is a great fit for that offense and defense.
Regarding Memphis, I never thought they deserved a #5 seed…but I’m also glad we didn’t get that particular seed. Colorado State is pretty good.

Great but you don't get Tomi without Dain leaving. Not like you could have also played Dain/Morez together
Yep, evident as to last season why Coleman was still playing the 5. Couldn't have Dain and Coleman on the floor together. Less to do with Brad "didn't" want to play Dain.

Must be nice to have a 43 percent three point shooter that makes threes.....
