Purdue Texas tech is a hard fought, first team to 50 wins, sort of a game. Kind of hard to watch, honestly

Man, Purdue doesn’t look great. They really miss Haas. If Harms can get his emotions under control, they may be able to crawl back but as of now, not confident.

Slightly off topic, but what do Purdue fans think of Painter? He was on the hot seat a few years ago but stayed partly due to the large buy-out IIRC. He's turned it around and had good but underwhelming teams the past couple years. Got upset in the first round 2 years ago, got destroyed by KU in the sweet 16 last year. And this year they have size, experience, shooting, stud PG, depth, and still no B1G championship and only reach the sweet 16. They have to be frustrated, right?

I don't think I could make that statement, with Haas out with a broken elbow. He is a huge part of their season and they missed him a lot.

They always have something like this. Even without Haas, they were more talented than TT.

Death, taxes, Purdey dropping out in the sweet 16.

Combination of Haas & off night for Mathias. Also watched a couple TT reg season games last month & they were not a stand out team like they were tonight. When things are going your way...hope they can knock off 'Nova.

is Matt Painter a good coach though?
yes...he's from the Bruce Weber tree and is starting to have regular B10 success.

He also seems to be leading country in recruiting 7'3" and taller dudes.

Purdue always seems to disappoint in the tournament

Hard to criticize them too much without Ivan Drago in the lineup. But it's been how long since Purdue has been in a Final Four? 38 years?

This one really hurts for them. This was their best shot. All those seniors, all that toughness and grit. And not even an Elite Eight to show for it.

Frustrated? Sure. But probably like how Villanova fans were frustrated with Jay Wright prior to 2016. Wright was a serial tournament choker, but now? He's a legend.

Painter's position is secure. PU fans can say "sure, we didn't get the tourney results we wanted, but we'll take S16 appearances and 25+ win seasons and top-20 rankings each and every year".

I only saw part of Clemson game, but Elijah Thomas looked lazy. Not impressed, has lost weight though. I did not see, what did he get Flagrant 1 foul for?

He was clearing out a KU big with his arm/elbow and made contact to his face. It was the right call.

Wright did have a Final Four appearance in 2010 I believe. That had to buy some time before the 2016 breakthrough.

I agree. I would think 25 win seasons and Sweet Sixteen appearances should make a fan base happy. Sure it would be frustrating to never get past (Xavier as another example) but, you have to get there first to be able to break through. Gonzaga finally getting through last year after a long stretch of successful seasons as another example. Very few teams get multiple Final Fours over a period of time. We of all people should know to savor them when they come. But also enjoy the seasons that fall a little short. Our 2004 season that ended on that Friday night against Duke was pretty enjoyable also. Especially compared to last 10 years or so.

To my mind, the question is simple. For success not only during the regular season but come tournament time, which type of skill sets and offense would you rather have your team employing: “Keady ball” or “Beilein ball” ? One might say the same of “Bo ball” — Wisconsin made a Final Four recently, but it took the Player of the Year to do it.

In my opinion, a team that can play fast and put up big scores always has an advantage over a grind-it-out style.

But at some point you have to want more, right? Gonzaga is a completely different topic because they are a mid-major. Highly unlikely that they attract someone better than Few.

But it's not all about the NCAA tournament, that's a huge crap-shoot. I think B1G championships are just as important because it's easier to show how good you are over the course of a whole season. Yes we lost to Duke in 2004 but we also won the B1G outright. Painter has 2 conference titles in 14 years, and has never been to the elite 8. If BU has the same kind of success here, I'm disappointed.
