In retrospect, it shouldn't be a huge surprise that UCLA made the final 4. They underachieved throughout the regular season, which was likely due to the loss of their top scorer. However, their starting line up in the tournament was very experienced, and highly rated coming out of high school. 24/7 ratings for their starters: 33, 48, 55, 87, 91.
Compare that to Michigan's starting five: 43, 70, 114, 201, Unranked.

Agree totally, which suggests the way the league games are called is dictated by the league office. I believe they instruct the crews to give the benefit of calls to the home team, keep games close, and cultivate the perception the league teams are very evenly matched. It is true that parity exists at a higher level than it used to, but the league tries to enhance this to maximize teams invited to the tournament. This is done at a cost of affecting style of play and wearing teams down by running through a gauntlet for 2.5 months, all capped by ending a brutal league tournament 4 days before the NCAA starts. This formula has not, in my opinion, prepared B10 teams for a sustained 6 game run to a championship. Only people who can change the formula have offices in Chicago and run the B10.
I think part of the problem too is that calls generally balance out across teams so if you have a team playing bully ball like MSU the officials aren’t comfortable calling two or three fouls against MSU for every one against the other team.

I'm pretty sure the sexual assault scandal was football related with Art Brilles and the player murder was what sparked the coaching change when Scott Drew came to Baylor. Seems to me like he has run a good program in spite of all the chaos and bad stuff around him...
I hope UCLA is proud...So good to raid high schools.

Lol Evidently Scott Drew is one of the most despised coaches within coaching circles.
I'm pretty sure if you polled all D1 coaches, they would list Drew as one of the dirtiest in the business. Baylor doesn't care though as long as he keeps winning.

Boroski and Larry S. should never be defined as reasonable in regards to their officiating............JMHO
Honestly I think it starts with officiating. Most Big 10 games were officiated horribly and in the tourney most games have very low foul totals, teams are allowed to be physical, travels which are usually called in B10 play don't get called etc etc. Even our usual suspects in the B10 like Boroski and Larry call the game more reasonably in the tournament.

As to your "fixing games" I suspect that happened in the MSU game. It was clear the zebras got the memo to get Izzo into the tourney. We were probably losing that night anyway as we played awful but it was 5 on 8. Similar thing happened to Ohio State at East Lansing.

I agree. But the people involved do not have the guts to fire Warren. Not in these times. But it goes deeper than Warren.

Rick Barnes has also had some on the record comments about Drew too.
I’m mixed on Drew. I think it’s highly probable, just because everybody good seems to do it. However, a couple years ago I had a player being recruited by Baylor. Primary contacts were Coach Tang, their lead assistant, and McCasland, the current coach at North Texas.
They came through regularly enough to know they were serious. If there were gonna be any “handlers” in that recruitment, it probably would have been our staff, because I think the player trusted us more than the others in his circle.
Nothing shady came about while they were recruiting him. I will add we didn’t get down to the nitty gritty at the end because the player made a dumb social media post so they moved on. But until that point in time everything was above board.
