āI feel like a superhero with the black mask on,ā he says.

I see Zorro out there. Others suggested Batman. Or Black Panther. Or, as Illinois coach Brad Underwood said, Catwoman.
But I see Zorro ā the understated black mask wrapped around the top part of his face, holes for his purposeful pupils. And as Ayo Dosunmu activates in the backcourt, he slashes through the defense ā
Zig! Zag! Zig! ā like Zorro cutting his trademark āZā with a sword.
āI feel like a superhero with the black mask on,ā Dosunmu said.
āI enjoy it ā it makes me focus in more,ā he said via the postgame Zoom conference. āEvery shot Iām shooting, in my head, I look at it as extra contesting in my face. So I try to focus in even more and dial in even more on my technique.ā
What a cool approach. He is so likeable. Perhaps even some Mizzou or Michigan fans could admit it.
But in practice the day before, Dosunmuās defense was deplorable. He admitted that Underwood āwent so crazy on meā for his play. And you know what? Dosunmu welcomed it.
āGreat players ā truly great players ā always want to be pushed,ā Underwood said. āAnd thatās one thing I respect about Ayo. Thereās something about (players with) greatness ā theyāre never satisfied. Ayo was not good defensively ā and I told him he might have the shortest comeback in history (if he played that way against the Buckeyes). But gosh darn it, he loves that. He doesnāt want to be coddled and told heās great. He thrives on that. And thatās a blast to coach. Itās called character. And weāve got a whole bunch of character in our locker room.ā
