fwiw heard that AM didn't even tell the team he was transferring and that BU reached out but wasn't given a chance to convince him to stay. also possibly a Mark Smith-esque parental situation. regardless sad to see him go

If this really is the case, then good riddance.

yes, he does. Curbelo is a facilitator. period. And will only get better. I can’t imagine not wanting to play with a point guard of his skill set.
Maybe you can’t, but I guess AM could. And I agree (and said in my post) that Curbelo will get better, but at least 1 or 2 times a game I’d yell at TV for Curbelo to hit open guy on wing instead of driving in too deep.

Not surprising considering just a week ago Curbelo was commenting on AM’s Instagram “we coming back kid, let’s work.”

This. 100%. Imo, we need the in-state talent to stick around if we ever want to be a consistent force. I thought having Ayo and then AM coming here would do big things for our future prospects. Ugh.
It's going to be hard to get in state talent when we lost to in state schools in the tournament.

Incredibly disrespectful, both to the team and the coaches. Underwood was nothing but complimentary of AM. Good riddance if that is the kind of character (or lack thereof) that he shows after literally living with this Illini family for a year of quarantine.

Well back to the basement I guess.

You going back to your basement or the Illini going back to the basement of the league? If the latter, maybe you should leave your basement and stop whatever you are smoking. We won't be top 5 most likely but still have more talent than most on the roster, and we haven't even seen how the transfer market plays out.

My only thought is that perhaps from his perspective, he doesn't want to be recruited over in the transfer portal. Maybe he's just doing this in order to protect himself in case he doesn't like the playing time he sees after a full team is formed. Maybe some of the insiders can speak on this?

Not enjoying all the AM hate on the boards right now. He accepted his role on the team and played hard. I don't like him transferring either, but don't think he deserves what some people are saying about him after a great season.
I mean what else could Illinois give him? A starting spot at a Big 10 team and a ranking all season as a freshman? Given his performance relative to how high his standards apparently are I don't know how this looks good. I think we have a right to be frustrated.

Wait to see what happens in a couple of weeks.
Why do I get the feeling you're saying it could get both worse and better at the same time?

I think there is a strong possibility that Miller was headed for a Trent Frazier type of role here. He and his family had much bigger aspirations when he came out of HS. I, for one, can't blame the kid for the decision.

I could see AM going to somewhere like Miami. He'd be "the guy" and still get national spotlight. Don't know the kid, but it's obvious he has an image he wants to keep up. Wish him nothing but the best. Next man up.
Hasn't he been hanging out down in South Beach this past week?

I didn’t disagree with anything you said
