Some people on Reddit were saying it has a lot to do with family drama. They didn’t like the role he was put in. And had a huge issue when Ayo’s family got more tickets to the tournament.
If this is accurate about the tickets, they are trash. Ayo has been here for 3 years and is leaving. Adam just got here. Of all the reasons to transfer, this would have to be one of the most idiotic.

Well, covid gave the NCAA a reason to try out this no sit out rule, and it will give them nice cover (I'd guess) for never doing allowing it again.

Yeah, you'd think they'd see that treatment and know they're a couple months away from being treated like royalty. Oh well. What fun would the world be if everybody were rational?!?

I think there is a strong possibility that Miller was headed for a Trent Frazier type of role here. He and his family had much bigger aspirations when he came out of HS. I, for one, can't blame the kid for the decision.
He was never going to be a point guard like Frazier.

So can someone shed some light on just how the Transfer Portal thing works????....If AM has entered the Portal does he still retain his scholarship and position on the team until he signs with another school????......or is his scholarship open now.....this could put BU and the coaching staff in a very difficult position if they offer Tyty or NB a scholarship and weeks later AM decides to withdraw his name from the Portal and return to UI.....seems like this new transfer option could get very complicated going forward

I am curious to know why our seniors wouldn't want to come back? Are we certain Trent, and D. Williams are out? Neither seem to have any pro options, so why not get a masters from UofI and lace em up again?
They have pro options overseas and the potential to make a nice living. Not multi-million $s a year nice, but a good living while playing basketball.

Curbelo. Grandison. Hawkins. GB. Hutcherson. Bosmans-Verdonk. Hamlin. Lieb. Goode. Melendez. Cockburn, maybe. + future H.S recruits & transfers.

I'm good. Going to be fun to watch the journey of this young team.

I can't imagine with this many players in the portal that many will find a better situation than they left. Griffin seemed to slip further into the Syracuse bench this year.

Miller should have tried to develop the skills over the next year or two.

I just saw this....My first reaction was , wow, is this an April Fools joke....??

My second reaction was about his room mate , Mr. Curbelo.....???

College BB is a rudderless ship on an ocean of $$$$, promise and lies , with NO loyalty to a program or state institution.....NCAA can't police their members and create more messes than solve any problems.....

If he wants to leave , so be it.......

Next man up.......
The things people believe are unreal...he was given every opportunity this year...not close to a one and done.....you want to be the man at NIU or Bradley have at it...your not a 1 and done (not remotely close)...wish him the best I just hope he’s not getting garbage fed to him that he’s NBA ready and he was held back cause that sure as heck wasn’t the case

respect my decision™
It's definitely someone else's fault he didn't have the season he planned on.

I'm altogether unsure that he'll find a better path elsewhere.

From what I can find, we are not obligated to take him back - the scholly is open for use as soon as he entered the portal. Per the linked article:

See ya. Onward and upward. How many Illini transfer have actually moved on to bigger and better things?
Miller could play a larger role on many, many teams. This is all part of the reemergence of Illini basketball.

If Trent Meacham from Mahomet that played here a few years ago had pro options I am 100% certain Trent and DaMonte will, that being said...not sure of the underlying situations etc...hypothetically BU might be chomping at the bit to have 100% his guys..,.seems like nice length and shooting ability coming in. Still hoping Adam is an April fools joke , that is actually why I came here to find out. Would love Trent to be staying, maybe he is and that is what prompted Adam to leave...if he truly is. I...L...L...crazy being an Illinois fan since Levi Cobb...js.
Minor nit: Meacham is from Champaign and played for Centennial. You're thinking of Brett Melton maybe?

Obviously losing AM sucks, but the saddest part for me is the feeling that the days of Illinois being a homegrown Illinois player powerhouse are firmly over. Ayo and AM gave me some hope that the magic of the 80s/90s + the Peoria pipeline might be back on. I just watched a video on the Flyin Illini this morning and the narrator (or Bardo...easily get them mixed up with his job these days) talked about having a bunch of hard-nosed Chicago boys on the team that year. That was awesome, but I don't expect we'll see it again.

Alright, enough sad sacking. I have no doubt that BU will reload and have us competitive again next year. Just hope this roller coaster ride is survivable until we get there!
