There’ll be some deep benches. Players love that!It appears to me that there will be expanded scholarships limits for the next 4 years since last year did not count for anyone. How transfers play into that is interesting.

You've evidently been watching Illinois basketball for as long as I have...seen it all.Why do I feel like Hutch will never suit up for us?
how bout "" Portal Kombat ""What else are schools supposed to do besides start creaning players left and right? If the players want the ability to just quit the team and go to another school then coaches shouldn't get frowned upon if they don't honor a 4 year schollie to kids that can't cut it or don't fit in. You can't have a label(Creaning) players without having a label for these kids that have no commitment to the coach and team. I guess we just stick with "quitter".

how bout "Portal Remains"
This is the drawback for the player. If you put in protections to protect the scholarship/player to school A, the program will not be able to push forward. I feel that once they go in the portal, its BYE-BYE. Most of these kids and handlers have been working on this for a time so once they walk through the door, there is no turning back. Also, I agree with you as these kids cannot sit on the sideline and pick and chose. They need to pick a place before spots start drying up. If I am a kid either in HS or college looking to transfer, I am picking a place ASAP. You snooze, you lose. Kids have 2-3 years to decide before their senior year. I know, its the handlers and the parents and if it were me, I would decide myself. I chose my school without anyone directing me. It’s not that hard ..Agree. There will likely be a number of unhappy portal-ers when this is all said and done. And I would not be surprised to hear some pushback by players that want their scholarship $$ covered in some way if they end up without a team. They will need a creative lawyer to find a justification, but they are out there.
Called that one. Fine- good. Go to ASU. I’m fine with that. Worked out well for Awvee.Hearing that Miller has a strong interest in ASU
Good. If he’s going to leave I want him out of the B1GHearing that Miller has a strong interest in ASU
Illinois transfers due to the "Slush Fund" scandal. Rich Jones to Memphis: Steve Kuberski to Bradley: There may have been others. Jones played in the old ABA. Kuberski played in the NBA.Brett Robisch really blossomed at Oklahoma State.
Ryan Blackwell and Alan Griffin both were solid players at Syracuse.
Mark Smith started at Mizzou.
Nunn and Myke Henry ended up making the NBA after leaving.
Notree was still a good player at UIC.
Other than Mark Smith who dew had guards better than, all those players we’d have been better with had they stayed.
In my opinion part of the reason Griffin left is he didn't like playing defense. While he was a good 3 pt shooter and good on the drive, he was all offense. On defense he was the worst player on the floor, always loosing track of his man. Syracuse had exactly what he wanted no man to man defense. With the zone he wouldn't have to chase people around and fight thru screens.Alan Griffin definitely improved his situation personally at Syracuse. For one, he played ALOT more. He played 29 mpg. At Illinois he only played 18 minutes. He also played mostly SF there, whereas at Illinois he was playing the 4 mostly. Sure, Illinois was a better team, but Syracuse still went further in the tourney and Griffin played a lot more (which means the most to a player is playing time). And it was close to home.
If you can argue to a player that you’re gonna olay more minutes, go further in the NCAA tourney, and be closer to home - most are going to take that.
Adam Miller situation is completely different. He was already playing a ton of minutes (most minutes played of any true freshman in the portal), and he’s already at home.
If you told me two weeks ago Miller and Boakye would be teammates next season, I would have been happy to hear the good news.Called that one. Fine- good. Go to ASU. I’m fine with that. Worked out well for Awvee.
Ned Stark was a pretty big dagger to me. Only 1 season with his role.I've found what I enjoy most in TV/Movies is character development. For this reason, I like TV shows better than movies. This tends to extend to my sports consumption. For me to enjoy the "character" to the extent I want to, they have to stick around. I can't get attached in 1 year. I especially can't get attached if they are just skipping off to another college team.
See ya, AM. I couldn't care less if your basketball life goes well or not from now on.
Just how I feel about it.
Griffin was a good 3 pt threat but when driving to the basket it was an adventure, not a great ball handler. He could have helped this year.In my opinion part of the reason Griffin left is he didn't like playing defense. While he was a good 3 pt shooter and good on the drive, he was all offense. Syracuse apparently played their best basketball of the year with Griffin spending less time on the floor. He’s obviously athletic, but still learning the game. Boeheim found out what Underwood already knew. Yet last year there was talk on the board about how Griffin should have gotten more time on the floor. I guess coaches do know something.Griffin was a good 3 pt threat but when driving to the basket it was an adventure, not a great ball handler. He could have helped this year.
What happened at Syracuse this year with him? He was having a solid year but the last 4 games of the year he averaged 13 minutes and 2 pts a game.
Never forget the Shoe is used on that PURDUE player.... really bad.....Many Syracuse fans are expecting Alan Griffin to transfer. (And some are just hoping he transfers.) He spent the second half of the season in the doghouse. It is unclear, though, if he can transfer given that he has already transferred once without having to sit out a year.
Griffin's a good example of the limitations of stats/advanced stats. I was one of those guys, b/c I saw us often go on big runs when he was in the game and what his spacing did for our offense. He literally had the best box plus-minus on the team -- better than Ayo, better than Kofi...everybody. And he was putting up good counting stats at Syracuse for awhile, but the team was so-so at best. The limited run I saw of him in the tourney was a drive to the hoop where he threw the ball straight to the opposing team, which kind of summed up what's happened as he's tried to become more of a ball handling threat.Syracuse apparently played their best basketball of the year with Griffin spending less time on the floor. This worries me too. Over two years here he still hasn't put on that much bulk. Hope he's just one of those guys with wiry strength, but I'm worried the B1G will take a toll on him.Honestly I don't think that is the question. I think the question is can he hold up through a full B1G season. HIs updates make it pretty clear he can practice and isn't limited much, but who knows how his body will respond to contact and falls.
