Ok, granted, but what about this scenario:

The handymen show up and immediately ask to use your bathroom, then for over two hours they take turns going in and out of there, taking huge mud-pies and over flushing? Then they go in there together, and you hear a bunch of scrounging around, and then a bunch of yelling, and then one of them is standing in the bathroom doorway shouting at you that his friend's foot was stuck in the toilet and he says "Help him, you gotta help him!" And when you go in there to help him, he just pulls it out and laughs because his foot wasn't stuck. It wasn't stuck at all, he was just faking it. And then they get really serios and say "It's Turbo Time!" Amd the both start running around the house as fast as they can and jumping over the couches. But when you try to jump in they yell at you and they say "YOU'RE NOT PART OF THE TURBO TEAM! DON'T RUN! YOU DON'T RUN WITH US! WE'RE THE ONES THAT RUN! UNTIL YOU'RE PART OF THIS TURBO TEAM, WALK SLOWLY!" Sobyou go lay down to be by yourself and read your art books, but then the next day you went into the bathroom, and it looked like the hole in your toilet had shrunk. And you said "How can that be? There's no way they could have shrunk the toilet" But then you saw in the trash a receipt from Home Depot for a toilet the exact same size as yours but with a joke hole that's just for farts! They replaced your real toilet with a fart toilet, and now you can't take a d$#@ in your house because your toilet can't suck them down, and you feel sick to your stomach!

What about then? If that's happened to you can you harrass a 19 for making an errant pass then?

That’s awfully specific…

Good enough for CBB's best program the past few years, but not good enough for our armchair coaches and social media warriors. Got it.
So one of the top 30 programs reaches out to him, and that is supposed to validate him? Come on. Not many fan bases support their players as well as Illini nation. The fact that so many fans wanted him gone proves much more than one of the top programs giving him a phone call. Andre needs a dose of humility and accept that his approach needs to change if he wants to play professionally. We are better without him if he can't realize this.

I laughed out loud at the first bolded. Fans who have quite literally no idea how the game of basketball works opinions are more valuable than Mark Few? LMAO.

The second bolded-do we forget he was All-B1G Freshmen last year, the sixth man of the year, and a preseason all B1G player this year (before the injuries/etc.)? Anyone who knows the game of basketball knows that we are certainly a better team with a fully healthy Belo. Whoever gets him next will be very lucky, and he will definitely prove people like you completely wrong.

Thanks for joining Loyalty today.

I would love to see your comments regarding his assist to turnover ratio, leadership, defensive prowess, field goal %, rebounding, win/loss record, etc, and your comparison with other guards that won the “6’th man of the year” in their respective conference as a freshman. Also should compare him to second year players that lost half of their season to a severe concussion and lingering symptoms and then to covid.

Not sure what data set or poll is being referenced regarding the numbers from our fan base that “want him gone”? There are many that have spewed negativity, while many others recognize he’s quite talented.

Perhaps determining the number of schools that are reported to be interested in AC after one day in the portal shouldn’t be viewed as a comprehensive list of teams that will have interest in him over the next number of weeks or months.

Thanks for sharing that AC needs a dose of humility, as most of us likely don’t have a personal relationship with him that enable us to make such an assumption.

I haven’t ever personally heard AC speak to his professional basketball aspirations….I might have missed those interviews.

Whether or not we will be better off without him remains to be seen. He’s a talented player that will be missed by many, but clearly not by all. I guess the final verdict is out until we can assess his replacement and evaluate their statistics and impact on the team after a couple years here. Obviously they will need to do well, as AC was a key contributor to a BTT banner and a BTC regular season banner in his two years here.

Otherwise…..great post.

Keep ‘em comin!!!

Wow. Hasn't been much posted on this site that I disagree more with than this. Belo thoroughly convinced me that he realized that he needed to play more under control, and did it this year. Not sure what more he needed to do to convince you, but so be it.

Does anyone have any information on why Andre decided to enter the portal?

He needs a fresh start.
Has anyone heard what HE has said is his reason? His father saw him play as an Illini for the first time, as I recall the commenters saying during our/his last game, at that last game. That was the game he was prohibited by a ref from wearing something he wanted to wear, the game during which he reportedly had some kind of episode during halftime, the game at which he was benched during the 2nd half, and a first half during which he did not play well, to put it kindly. Seems like a perfect storm BUT whether all of that is cause or effect is unknown. It is kind of depressing to see the list of his new suitors, now that he wants a divorce from the ones who first loved him, and if Underwood & Co. want him to stay, then I wish he would change his mind, declare his re-newed love for our beloved Illinois, and stay.

Well, to be fair, those schools have not yet had him as a member of their team so they don't yet have any fully informed experience. He might be quite a handful and that kind of challenge might have good or bad outcomes; it's an unknown until it's known.

I had the sense that he didn't really know what his role was: was he the "new Ayo?" Was he the Trent alternative? Was he "destined" to fly onto the court, do some Harlem Globetrotter flash? Was he supposed to shoot 3 pointers and maybe make one now and then? Was he supposed to pass to nobody but Kofi? Was he supposed to dash in and save the day? Was he supposed to dazzle and confuse the opponents and gob-smack media talkers with impossible passes behind the back while standing on his head? Was he supposed to swagger onto the court and show his team- mates how it's supposed to be done?
Another poster said he needed to show some humility. These things, if any validity, may change with experience and maturity, or not; we can't know.
He's an intriguing personality, BUT out of respect for his team- mates and coaches, he needs to know his role on the TEAM and play it out.
When he was out for recovery but still on the sidelines, he was often seen apart from the rest of the bench and VERY actively engaged with the refs, as if HE were on the coaching staff. BU was seen kind of moving him away from that. It's like eating DURING a press conference - it was inappropriate and disrespectful. Kofi sat next to him and was so dignified and appropriate, seemingly understanding that he was, yes, representing himself, but even moreso representing Illinois. Curbelo is delightful when he plays like some force of magic but my instinct tells me he is quite a handful to coach. I wish we could know the whole, true story and be able to stop guessing, "was it him or was it us?"

Things can be unknown to you or me and yet be known to others.

That is underwood’s job. If he can’t figure out how to handle different personalities then he is going to be out of touch like Weber. Time keeps on ticking. Life moves fast so sometimes you have to stop and enjoy it. Sometimes you need to change - talking to you underwood

If you're talking about coach Underwood, you're talking about the same coach that Mr. Andre curbelo jumped up in the air and basically bear-hugged him with Joy, his freshman season! I personally think this stems from his concussion, having mental health issues, too much time on social media, and too lofty of expectations from a kid who has never shot more than 20% from 3-point range. Plain and simple! After our first-round tournament win this year during the press conference I got concerned. Kofi and Hawkins came out in Illini gear Mr. Curbelo came out in his Curbelo t-shirt and his Top Gun Shades. his answers to the reporters we're distant, short, something didn't seem right. I did not know what the problem was or is, but I hope it can be resolved and I hope he rejoins our Illini family I sincerely do! If he moves on I will root for him unless he's playing the fighting Illini. This is not a Coach Underwood problem.

Concussion happened in a game. He won't rejoin the Illini family. A fresh start was needed for both us and him.
