not sure if I linked that correctly, but believe this is the Houston pre-game interview.
Thank you for reconnecting this thread to that interview.

The words I heard were; true to myself, I could care less, gonna do my thing.
In retrospect, perhaps telling.
The words "coaches decision" just might explain this whole deal.

As a lay person, not a "insider", from the beginning seemed to be a "head case" no pun intended.

Thanks for posting. It’s a fine line. Guys are good at this level cause they go out and do what they do. Obviously it wasn’t working for him but I can’t fault him for sticking to his guns because that mindset is part of what got him this far.

I sincerely hope Andre gets healthy and has a great year next year. All the best to him. I'll miss his giant grin.

In my opinion he was treated just fine. Any criticism he received was warranted and never very harsh that I saw.

Its possible I missed what you refer to but he's a big boy and this is the real world.
Yeah I mean during the Marquette game I jokingly said in the game thread that Curbelo seems like he must have money on that game because it sure as seemed like he was throwing the game with the crazy horrific amount of turnovers he committed in that game lol but honestly other than I don't think the fans on here have every been too harsh. Now Twitter on the other hand...

that place is a total cesspool and I'm glad I don't have an account on there. .

Paducah, Ky
= Uncoachable
I understand the sentiment regarding your post and have to say that thought has also crossed my mind this past season.........The uncoachable term maybe a little too much , as to my mind the term "" stubborn "" might fit this scenario best , at least to me...........If more info comes out about the halftime incident and benching for the second half of that game , then uncoachable might be more appropriate then.........

it's truly unfortunate the chain of events that has unfolded since Belo came to the Illini program..........A program undernourished in the area of point guards who could penetrate the paint and either score or get a dime with an eye opening pass...............

1st season

B1G

6th man of the year
all frosh 1st team

2nd season

concussion
covid 19
weeks without any BB related activities

transfer portal : committed to St. Johns

Such promise shown first year , then such disappointment this second season...............lots of expectations , coupled with a
somewhat immature personality ( JMHO ) has led to the parting of our relationship with Belo...........I really think this is the best outcome for both Belo and the Illini.................Clean the slate,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,fresh start..........................new backcourt of recruits and possible transfer's..............

To close , while I understand the "" uncoachable "" thoughts , I would need more info on that halftime incident.............I really really would like to know what happened and the level of anger with what was said or done............Asking for MYSELF..........................................

Just wondering if his first thoughts on transferring occurred to him before the 2nd half of that game.... And the coaching staff's opinion of him before that game..... And the conversations he and BU and the staff had with him throughout the year.

Will he have to sit out a year? Will he average double digit turnovers?

I figured he was gone after I watched the infamous chicken sandwich interview. His whole demeanor plus the statements about not gonna change etc etc came across like a big middle finger.

Good luck Mr. Curbelo, it's always a thrill watching you.
It's the best way to watch him play. We can marvel at the highlight reel great plays, yet, not get so damn mad when he makes the bozo type plays because that anger now gets to be the burden of the St. Johns faithful.

Awful people on Twitter is not an Illinois thing. That's a Twitter thing and going to St. Johns or anywhere else isn't going to change that.
Exactly, any school that cares about basketball is going to have idiots on twitter. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised that there isn't just a whole group of sociopaths stirring up crap on twitter to get their rocks off.

Hope there's a day that it goes away. I can't think of one benefit of substance that it's provided. And no, finding out about a commitment 12 hours before I would have in 1983 doesn't count as a benefit of substance.

Best of luck to the kid.
