BREAKING: AP ranks all-time top 100 basketball teams based on weekly polls; No. 1 all-time is Kentucky. #APTop100 http://apne.ws/2nM3MR6 pic.twitter.com/f7bBgxbdTC
UCONN has won 4 national titles in the last 20 years. That's astonishing they can't get more recognition, but I know this poll is not based on that.
1999, 2004, 2011, 2014. No back to back's, and basically a completely different set of players for each title. I just think that's unbelievable.
I imagine we could've been a little higher had we actually been any good the last decade.
People ask about the so-called blue blood programs. Those first six are fine examples.
How are vacated wins handled?
Number of wins technically has nothing to do with this list. If you want to ask how they dealt with weeks a team was in a poll in a vacated season, that's not addressed as far as I can tell.
And Maryland never has. May not surprise you, but they had a great run in the late 90s/early 2000s. Would have thought they were at some point.
How is that possible? They won the championship and would have been ranked #1 in all final polls?
Imagine how well-regarded we'd be if we had a major media market regularly promoting us, rather than attempting to tear us down.
Dictionary definition of Blue Blood:
1. Membership in a noble or socially prominent family.
Dictionary definition of Noble:
1. Possessing outstanding qualities.
Dictionary definition of Prominent:
1. Leading, important, or well known.
Illini have membership in socially prominent families (High Big Ten and Top #11 Total Bball Ranking). Illini are well-known among basketball history, and they possess outstanding qualities (many of which are cited here regularly). And it just so happens that one of the Illini primary colors is BLUE. By these definitions, Illini are Blue Blood.
Illini are looking up at some programs right now. But even Royal Families over time had an occasional screw up or two.
Looks like we've dropped five spots over the past 6-7 years. At least the two analyses are somewhat consistent! This is the ESPN/Sagarin ranking I've been posting on here (and sharing with friends) over the past 3-4 years.Jeremy WernerVerified account @JWernerScout 15m15 minutes ago #Illini pretty high on this list
