I think Hawk has a bright future. I think his he may have let his ego get a little too big with the early games. I saw the Indiana (PA) game in person. He was constantly jawing with the other team and even got a tech for telling the opposing bench they "f'n suck" (they are a D2 school). This wasn't the only game where similar things happened.
I've noticed the same thing with Hawk's attitude. However, I do wonder how you heard what he said to the opposing bench. Are you in Krush? Sit in section 12? I sit right behind those seats but I can't hear those exchanges.

Was that a literal "f'n" or was that paraphrasing it.
Most guys on the court come from an environment where they are taught to never back down. A guy that back downs is bullied when off of the court. You must always stand up for yourself. Many here have no idea what has been said to these players. You want them to play intensely but, question their intelligence when they do. There are many reasons why guys have these problems that they are "T'd" for. You want them to fight back but, nicely. One can't simply turn one's emotions off and on like that. An athlete spends 2 or 3 days getting psyched up for an event and everyone wants him to be nice at a moment's notice. If a guy gets in your face, you can never just walk away. As one gets older, like 40 or 50 years of age, one can learn to walk away. Many times, during a game, a guy is being tested and there is a need to show an opposing player that he can't simply punk you. Still, these are 18, 19, and 20-year-old kids. Yes, there are some things that one simply has to ignore during a game but, that is not always the case. This board needs to learn to lighten up and learn to show the same maturity that is being demanded of these young men. My apologies for venting.

Heard a pro (NFL) once say that if you’ve got the energy to talk smack you ain’t workin’ hard enough.
A lot of the all-time greats also talked smack. Jordan was a prolific trash talker. He just managed to keep it targeted and do it in way that didn't get him T'd up. Trash talk, done right, can be a way to gain a mental edge against your oponent.

I needed at least 3 if not 4 days to get psyched up....which might explain why I didn't play much in college

Go listen to some mic'd up segments in YouTube. The best NFL players are constantly talking smack, including the QBs at times.

In college basketball, many times, one only has 2 to 3 days. In football, one has a few more days to truly manage that.

I certainly would not have a problem with Coleman telling the Iowa or Missouri bench that they f'n suck. But I would rather he not be talking trash to a low level D1 team that really does suck.
This is the reason I played linebacker, not basketball. Testosterone fueled aggression was encouraged.
