As the coach, what would you do differently?

Realize my limitations and hire good assistants not ones I am comfortable with.

Yes. I'll go out on an unpopular limb here and say this could be fixed with a great #2 guy who knows Xs and Os and how to sub. No coach can see everything going on and needs help.

Assistants in Football are removed all the time. Groce has shown he can recruit finally even when the team is down. Unless we get a near homerun hire, i say Ford must go and bring in someone who knows how to create an offense.

P.S. Oh, and yell at and bench players alot more when they are not giving it their all.

Happens in the NBA all the time.

Young energetic players coach with a grizzled
Veteran x and o guy on the bench.

Agree - I don't think its reasonable to expect one person to be all knowing and run a game - there is a lot going on out there and the best coaches have good coaches tugging on their sleeve during the games. There's also a reason good coaches breed good coaches - they find people who can be additive to the team and contribute - not just sit and learn from the foot of the master.

1) I would have played the younger guys, who have more talent IMHO, much more early on. Let them make mistakes in game situations. A risk for sure, but one iqould take. Because, the +'ve with them is their talent needs confidence. A practice or the bench can never substitute for that

I am impressed with Kipper the most.

2) On the flip side I would have sat some of the seniors - Tate and Tracy. They have given everything the could by now to the school. More to say on this topic, but no use kick up dust at this point.

3) I just hope Grove, if he is here, does not make that mistake next year - trying to iron out all wrinkles before letting the kids play

Design and teach some inbounds plays against a pressing defense.

Nice post. I'm not sure there's anything revolutionary in there, in that the team looks confused, and it hurts guys confidence. Whether the cause is bad coaching or "brilliant" coaching, doesn't really matter IMO. On top of that, even a casual fan can see defensive intensity, which we lack the majority of the time.

Confused plus lack of defensive intensity says we have a serious problem at the HC position. If it's due to JG being "too" brilliant, well, it's still a huge problem.

And his comment about JG being successful somewhere doesn't make much sense. If he can't communicate well with players, that's not a guy I would hire, personally.

Yeah, the article didn't strike as being a defense of Groce, but an explanation.
