It is called inconsistently and I'm not sure it's really making the sport safer. I guess MN is just unlucky to draw so many flags.
Well, Kill definitely coached hard nosed football, which I believe continues with Claeys, and that's what I would call all three hits shown in the article.

A Northwestern player did what could be considered targeting in the pinstripe bowl, announcers agreed the shot was clean but by rule it should be a penalty. The refs didn't call it targeting, thankfully. On another note Jackson is a really talented back.

And the QB was knocked out of the game anyway.

I think the refs gave the defender a break because the QB lowered his head which allowed the contact.

Nice win by NW.

So, to this point the B1G is 2-1 in bowls. Any predictions on the final tally? My guess is 8-3.

I agree. I was against Babers, Leach and every other gimmick guy. Run the ball and play defense is how you win consistently in the B1G. The read option and mobile QB really adds a lot to this and clearly that's what McGee is aiming at. Btw, we complained about Lunt but IU's Lagow was pretty bad.

The Minny win was quite impressive. Prior to the hiring our Lord Saint LOV:illinois:E, when i was a lurker, people longed for Dino Babers among others. They wanted these system coaches who could use gimmicky schemes to win games to improve the Illini. The Gophers are halfway decent and like any halfway decent team, using physical advantages can throw off the timing of these gimmick offenses like WSU. It was impressive to see a middle of the road Big Ten team dominate a top Power conference team (NU did it too, though Narduzzi doesnt run gimmicks) it has been a LONG time since the conference has been this good.

WSU was only a top PAC team because they didn't play USC or Utah. The two times they played ranked opponents they lost by 14 and 28.

Dang, that's optimistic. I had 5-6 going into the bowl season, and maybe moves to 6-5 with the NW win. Going .500 is a huge accomplishment, with all our teams "playing up" in the bowl standings on the road. Hope we're a part of it next year!

I think we're 2-2. IU lost as well as Maryland.

I've never seen a team play so well 1st half. Then have an absolute meltdown the 2nd half like Arkansa. Woof

What's with Mike Gundy's hillbilly hair? He's trying too hard to fit in in Oklahoma.

Ha. Well I guess he can coach and that Pickens dude must like him.

Okay enuff of the big ten pride ...

I want to see WMU beat wisconsin. They got the run defense that might just do it to.

LoL OSU. Maybe Urban will retire again.

Also, LoL Big Ten.

You can't be serious...did you watch the NC game last year? Watson makes the other QB's in the Final 4 look like middle schoolers. There is some serious Big 10 myopia on this board.

Can I say "I told you so?'' Where is the genius who said Watson was a fraud?

This resurgence of Penn State football is really grinding my gears. Don't get me wrong I still loathe USC football but at this point they would be the lesser of 2 evils.
