Yes, but at the same time if the D-League did have money then they could buy that star power. I could watch a team full of Dee Brown level players. But those college stars who don't translate to the NBA want to go overseas where they can make decent money. Sorry completely off topic.

I do not believe there is a market for it, that is why even bigger league efforts (e.g., ABA, USFL) eventually failed. Between college basketball and the NBA, there is not much space IMO for higher level NBDL. Europe is not the NBA, but there is local interest for basketball, especially in the absence of college (or even HS) basketball following.

Some external observes also exaggerate on the easiness to get big money in Europe. Low-tier teams do not offer much more money than D-league. Better, but not much. Top tier (i.e., Euroleague teams), there is indeed very good money, but college stars who do not make the NBA have little chance of making it right away. Euroleague teams are dominated by top international players and veterans, ex-NBA players who had spent more than a cup of coffee in the NBA, or college players who have proved themselves at mid-tier teams. Best scenario is to get a contract with a mid-level team in a good league (e.g., Brandon Paul this year with Joventut Badalona) but it took even Brandon Paul quite some time to reach there. With the emergence of international basketball, it is has become a lot harder to get the better contracts in Europe.

Honestly, the second the draft happens, college stars which aren't drafted almost immediately fizzle. People just don't want to watch Dee Brown level talent. People want to watch Anthony Davis level talent.

This is an extreme long shot, but Malik Newman has pulled out of the draft and the rumor is he'll transfer from MSST. There's some speculation he'll go the JUCO route, but he'd fit what Groce has always said he wants from a lead guard: attacking, explosive player who can score on all three levels. Newman's biggest strength is probably going to the hoop off the high ball screen.

As a freshman last year, he put up 11 ppg, 3 reb, 2 ast, and shot 38% from 3-point range. He was the #8 player in the '15 class. Guessing he'll end up at a JUCO next year or he'll transfer to LSU or UK (both were in his top 5). Hopefully Groce at least puts out feelers.

I'm sure Lee will head back to the west coast, right? He's from California, I believe.

Didn't see Obelix's post. Yep, no way he's ending up east of Nevada. I'm assuming a Cali school. If not, maybe Oregon or UNLV.

The move by Lee is a bit strange since he is a semester from graduating, although based on my personal experiences, I don't think he cares much about the academic aspect of college basketball.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe only one of those schools could be considered "West Coast", and it's nowhere near California.

I know, I wouldn't think GT or Baylor have much of a chance, but Iowa State is Transfer U and Kansas is Kansas although I would think he's had his full of being recruited over after Kentucky. Imagine Gonzaga is the leader of those teams. But it doesn't cost anything to reach out I guess.

Interesting how the majority are all Big 12 schools thus far. That list will grow.

I know nothing about Lee, but it wouldn't hurt to reach out to him.

What the heck is going on at Cal with Cuonzo that he's getting all this interest from top tier players? Is stuff going on there that wouldn't fly at Illinois? Or is he just that personable of a guy? I know anytime names are mentioned for our HC position Cuonzo Martin's name get thrown around. Just curious.

Both, except is has, does, and will continue to fly at Illinois. It's a question of doing so effectively.

There's also more than a little luck involved.

After going thru draft process & having option to be a graduate transfer Alec Peters has decided to remain at Valpo for his Senior Year

As I said when he began the draft process, I thought he'd follow Drew. I know the family and Alec very well, and I'm surprised. He'd be a kid that'd be fun to see get a shot to compete at a high d1 level.

isnt there a Miss. St. guard who just backed away form the draft and is looking for a transfer school? Malik Newman would need to sit a year wherever he goes. scored 11 pts a game as a true freshman. apparently has trust issues with Ben Howland! imagine that.

With his skills and athleticism, he'd be a good fit anywhere and definitely won't come on the cheap. I don't see Illinois, let alone a JUCO program, being able to afford him. Don't sleep on KU in this one.

I've heard that his girlfriend was Valpo's best recruiter. True?

Any chance we have a shot with Charles Matthews?
