I know most people hated the two-tone font, but these are probably my favorite uniforms we've had over the last 20 years. The font is doing all the work. The rest has just enough subtle detail to make them unique, without the massive zig-zags making us look like clowns.

By the way, just what is the image? or whatever, on the back of the jerseys (Cole number 30)? I keep trying to make it out during games but everyone is moving too fast. And even in this picture I still can't really seem to make out just what the heck it is.

Thanks. Next question is why?

Also, when I was going to school (a century ago) I don't remember it having that name. Or anyone referring to it as Foellinger. It was always just the Auditorium. Funny.

Maybe someone has a real answer but Nike seemed to have a phase featuring prominent campus architecture in 'watermarks' on the jersey. Foellinger Auditorium :thumb: is one of the most recognizable buildings on campus and in a prominent spot. Also probably just fits a jersey better than the Union or Altgeld. Fun fact Foellinger was inspired by Thomas Jefferson's library design for UVA

Also FWIW, we've had an arched "Illinois" as our jersey for much of our history. As much a jersey tradition as we've ever had (our others would be a Orange helmet with white mask, but i'll save this rant for future conversations). Even the 89's had an arch. I just think this wordmark deserves a little more credit, in our tumultuous design history.

Just to clarify, I was commenting on those two elements together on that uniform - when you have a gonzo number font and pair it with that type of staid lettering it looks very weird to me (and obviously those numbers were so chunky that matching lettering would be near impossible).

Have no issue with arched "Illinois" - although it is hard to see how that lives on if there is any consistency with our rebrand font.

We had an arched "Illini" recently and I quite liked this series of jerseys too, even if they don't seem to get much love

Take away the two tone font and these are great jerseys imo

cosign.

The next year they did change them all to just that (except for the whites)

And just so I have a reason to complain about something, I wish they would have inverted the coloring. I like it on the older versions when "Illinois" was the flip of the number.

I have to admit...the rebrand font is slowly growing on me :noidea:
Looks so crisp on Kip's shirt. Btw I believe this was taken at an Illini Pride event on campus.

True --- but it wasn't just confined to Illini basketball. The 90's offered up hideous uni's for almost every team (HS through Pro) and every sport.

I don't know, those USA soccer unis were pretty sweet.
