I'm glad Trent made the all-defensive team, but the entire all-defensive team was odd to me, because Michigan and Illinois were by far the best defensive teams in the league, and only one player combined from both teams made it. Statistically, guys like Franz Wagner, Kofi, DMW, Ayo, Dickinson and Eli Brooks were better than anyone else on that list, particularly the DPOY, who, fine, Maryland was pretty good on defense, but it probably should have had 2 guys each from Michigan and Illinois on the team.

Myles Johnson was also an odd pick there because he's more "fouls constantly" than "good defense", but he has a good defensive rating, so...maybe.

Agree. I thought Wagner was no doubt all defense and maybe DPOY. And they left him off. Also thought Kofi would be in there. Thought team should have been Frazier Kofi Wagner Morsell Henry, although maybe Johnson has a better case than Henry.

I'm not as well versed in advanced metrics as you are, but isn't it generally acknowledged that advanced stats are not as good/reliable for individual defense as they are for individual offense or team defense? Or am I making that up?

Not as good, as defense is much more team-oriented, so it's difficult to measure an individual's impact specifically. As a rule, though, having a conference with 2 dominant teams would stand to reason that those teams should be well represented on the all-defensive team.

I've never seen a first team with 4 centers (maybe 3 and a power forward) in my adult life. It's like a time warp back to the early 80s.

If this team actually played a game they would have lots of trouble advancing the ball past half court.

Ayo and Kofi can run the break together. Everyone else can stay back to block shots and rebound.

I want to give a shout out to Andre. His highlight reel is a treat, if you haven't watched it. So many remarkable plays --lotta sick passes, some that no one else would even try. And it's worth mentioning what a warrior he's been, both this his toughness and intensity. Dealt with a rolled ankle as well as a concussion early in the season.

There isn't a coach in the BIG that isn't wishing they had Curbelo.

...and he's just a freshman :)

I couldnā€™t be more thrown off by this lovely interview with Frank Garza. Is this a mind game or is he really a likeable person? He couldnā€™t be more complimentary of Ayo (and says a lot of true things!)

class act. seems like a very nice guy. We can hate iowa all we want, but luka may be the only other player in the country with the work rate that ayo has had. Both amazing all time great big ten players

I've drunk a lot of beer with Frank and he is indeed a very nice guy. At one point he wanted Luka to transfer to Georgetown because he did not like Fran much more than Loyalty does.

Garza is a class act and one of the hardest working CBB players ever. He's not a whiney punchable face like the rest of the Turdeyes.

But he's not the complete player that Ayo is. Ayo averaged only 2 rebounds per game less than a 7' monster.

Props to papa Garza.

How the hell did he end up there?
The Maret School is known for academics, not athletics, and Luka was pretty pudgy as a soph, so he did not have a lot major school interest until later. Iowa was probably the first major school to recruit Luka.
