I agree the biggest lock of all the awardsUnderwood is probably second in the voting. We were ranked 10-11 in the preseason top 25 and are now 16. Wisconsin didn’t receive a single vote preseason and finished 12th. That’s why. Hard to argue imo.

I think they'll announce Coach of the Triennial later todayI honestly think Underwood should get Coach of the Year. We won head to head vs. Wisconsin. He dealt with more injuries / players out and worked his tail off. Maybe his best coaching performance ever.
And yes Kofi should have won POY
Or maybe a lead in to 33's big year next season. So
21 made the 1st team
01 made the 2nd team, and
11 made the 3rd team
Guess we need to have all our numbers ending with a "1" here on out
GO ILLINI
The numbers do ‘add up!’Or maybe a lead in to 33's big year next season.
This was due to ties in the coaches vote. In the media vote Davidson was 3rd team and Geo Baker/Gabe Brown were honorable mentions. Not sure how we ended up with 17 guys on 3 teams but... whatever. Congrats to Alfonso!
Great take! \sThe Big Ten is so short sighted with Illinois. It’s like we begrudgingly get anything from the conference. We are your potential basketball cash cow because of Chicago. You’d think they’d want us as hyped as possible.
You forgot the obstacle of talent rated to finish 10th. Yeh, Brad deserves it, but Gard probably does, too.How does BU not get coach of the year..loses Ayo...Miller transfers...replaces asst coaching staff...pre season All American point guard concussed most of the year..All-American center concussed for a few games...whole team had covid.... the only obstacles Gard had this year was getting slapped!
If we were Wisky fans, we'd be pointing to that as exhibit A of great player development, i.e. coaching100% agree. The reason they've ended up at the top of the B1G is not primarily due to Gard's tremendous leadership and coaching, but because a guy who averaged 7ppg suddenly became a 20ppg force and eventual POY. Nobody saw that coming and that's why they were picked 10th. I have some issues with 'double-dipping', so to speak, and admitting they had the best player in the conference while also crediting Gard with an outcome that is surprising only because everybody was unable to see that they would have the POY on their team.
Happy to see Frazier in 2nd team and Plummer in 3rd team. Only thing I would argue is Trent definitely deserves DPOY - I think he was very close last year as well.
And Brad's proud record to have a kid in all-freshmen team ends (Trent, Ayo, Kofi, Belo), though I would not complain that.
Agreed. Even Caleb Houstan (10.5 ppg) wasn't able to make it to the first team. This was a tough year to get Freshman of the Year. Good players, but not great players in the Freshman category.
The numbers do ‘add up!’
You’re right, but that also doesn’t mean you’re right, if that makes sense. We would absolutely point to great player development but that doesn’t mean it would be correct to attribute a player’s improvements to the coach. It ultimately starts and ends with the player. If we were Wisky fans, we'd be pointing to that as exhibit A of great player development, i.e. coaching
Also we game planned to play help defense on Davis and they game planned on Kofi to double and triple team him other than Wisconsin and how’d that work out for them?Exactly. Big difference between the two. Whatever Kofi did, he did with 600 pounds or more hanging on him. Getting shoved. Arms slapped. Elbows in the back and ribs.
Hope 4 of those guys go pro after the seasonAccording to KenPom player of the year rating (takes into effect player efficiency, team quality, and player importance to team), here are the 5 all-B1G players:

I don't personally have an issue with any of the 5, or necessarily the order. 4 of them were on the overall top 10 as well, so that says how high level the competition in the B1G was all year round.
I have no idea how you see three Illini on the All-Big Ten teams and conclude this. The Big Ten is so short sighted with Illinois. It’s like we begrudgingly get anything from the conference. We are your potential basketball cash cow because of Chicago. You’d think they’d want us as hyped as possible.
We should have had all 17I have no idea how you see three Illini on the All-Big Ten teams and conclude this.
That might be generous. He may have simply been picking the star that was least comparable to himself. At least he gave a shout out to Kofi. Was asked to pick POY besides himself and he picked Kofi.
Sounds like he respects Kofi.
Yes. He is the only weapon they have on that end, aside from guys that can reach high.Is Hunter a good defender? Guess I didn't notice because Purdue as a team hasn't been very good defensively.
