Bill Cubit Fired

I saved my 1000th post for this!

In my 40+ years of following sports, college and pro, I've never seen a bolder pronouncement that a new sheriff was in town than this. On his first day. Yes, it's a football thing, but I suspect it's not just a football thing. That shockwave just resonated to every corner of DIA, the University, the state of Illinois. We've been saying for decades that we need to stop accepting mediocrity. I think somebody finally just did.

As a State funded University, are they not required to do a search, including some diversity candidates? I think someone mentioned they must wait at least a week, probably after officially "posting" the job opening.

Hiring a professor at a state school is a long process with approval of the advertising for the position, interviews, documentation of vitae by potential hires, involvement with the department, h.r., EEO, etc, etc. (although not in that order but often done several times).

Coaches are different. And English profs don't get million dollar contracts.

I sooo agree with this.

(I retract that agreement if he announces he's putting together a search committee to find a new coach.:))

My sources say Zook, wannstadt, and Bobby Petrino all have turned us down this morning. :gossip:

In all seriousness this is what happens when a leader actually leads. #BigOrangeAndBlueOnions

Go Josh.

Hey, you guys in the central time zone, you get the presser at 3:00. We on the East Coast have to wait until 4:00!

What I don't like about this whole ordeal is well... everything! The timing of this fire will give us 3 coaches in less than a year. I wish we could've done this months ago but nobody with a backbone could make a decisive decision. If I am a recruit, why would I want to commit to this mess? In a state with no budget, fires head coaches at will, it would be one thing if we were actually good but we are not... Whoever comes in better be worth it!

Some Thoughts

1- Whomever is hired will rehire a good portion of current staff because Spring ball is around the corner and it would take to much time to assemble a new one.
2- All of Cubit's efforts were partially an audition for his next job.
3- Ditto for his son.
4- These players will quickly get over this move and soon be happy as a clam!
5- I hope I'm right:confused::D

In Russia they've already found out who the new coach is!

If JW has his coach who would hire after the 2016 season why not do it now. Give the new coach time to get to know the recruits and get the players he'll need for his system. Makes sense to me to do it now.
