Bill Cubit Fired

Werner tweeted it before the football account and I'm not sure if someone had reported it prior to him.

Werner was tweeting from the press release in his inbox. He tweeted it roughly 30 seconds before the school's official Twitter account did.

Well if it's Frazier, Singletary is close to Leslie and is available and would make a great defensive coordinator. :)

I see a lot of people mentioning Leslie Frazier. I know he was at Illinois a while back (while Whitman was here playing) but his resume doesn't look impressive to me.

Can somebody enlighten me? Ultimately Whitman is much more knowledgeable about football than probably anybody on this board. I just want to know why, if you like the thought of a Leslie Frazier hire, you think he's a good D1 HC prospect?

Just curious. Thanks in advance and Go Illini!

I'm not asking you to say who it is unless you want to... :)

But in general do you think we will like it?

I don't know. I have an "idea". Just know this was not spur of the moment. Has been in the works.

Everyone focuses on Whitman's Illini pedigree, but they tend to overlook that he bounced around the NFL for four years. I think that opens your eyes to the mickey-mouse nature of a lot of college coaching and probably turns you off from much of the rah-rah garbage.

The guys Whitman brings up as coaching influences on him, Turner, Harry Hiestand, Greg McMahon, Frazier, Mike Riley, Paul Chryst, every last one of them is a professional, craftsman kind of coach.

Cubit had to go but it's going to be typical Illinois listening to the new AD's first "official" presser open with "First of all, I'd like to apologize to the players..."

oh well, at least we can start to get this behind us. Is it too early to crack a beer? Geez, It's been quite the interesting day (so far).

People are underestimating Whitman's Turner connection. Norv is our next head coach. :frustrated: (sarcasm)

I hope you're wrong.

With losing records in Washington, D.C. and Oakland, and a winning record in San Diego, Turner has coached more games than any other coach in NFL history who has a losing overall record

<Edit> I see what you did there Illinifan ;)

We will find out soon but this tells me Josh Whitman is either crazy or balls out brilliant. This is so anti the way the Illini have done business for my lifetime. I'm guessing Cubit or son leaked it which messed up the timing. If he has someone up his sleeve its sort of like when the Cubs dumped Renteria for Maddon. If you have a chance to advance the program you take it when it presents itself.

Nobody leaked anything. The school issued a press release.

I got you, couple flights from Midway with FlightStar, the company the University tends to charter with. But that could be totally the fact that people fly from midway a lot. One of the flights was at 0830 this morning, though.
I'm a little disappointed in this board's hustle. Not one person has analyzed every flight going in and out of Willard for the past 96 hours. I'm ashamed.

i was out at Willard today from 9:00 to 1:00 today doing some stuff and I don't think any Lear jets came in, and I know for a fact the UIUC plane is in its hanger and isn't out picking up a coach (I asked one of the maintenance guys)

One shouldn't have expected a "football guy" to be timid about the football program. However, this is really bold. I love it. I hope his connections prove advantageous.

I'd like a NFL guy. Might cost you a little in recruiting but we have to coach up the 3* guys we get to compete.
