Wasn't sure where to post this, here or general sports talk

In today's college football world, what is good for the B1G as a whole, is good for Illinois. The bottom of the bottom conferences do not entice major recruits. We need the conference to have a good showing. How many times have I heard the Missouri pitch to recruits "its SEC football". I want to throw up just typing that. We need "its B1G football" to mean more

Really Wisconsin and Ohio State are the only ones I don't have 100% confidence in

Navy beat Virginia 49-7 without completing a pass (one attempt). Virginia's only score was returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown.

Nah, put them in the East and Air Force in the West.

The box score was remarkable. Navy used two quarterbacks, but only the one with a pass attempt had a quarterback rating, which was 0.0. That's some throwback football.

I always root for the big ten teams in bowl games, no matter who they are. The conference is looking good through the first three games.

This has been a rollercoaster year for Navy but both Ken N(not even gonna try to spell it) and Jeff Monken have turned Army and Navy into strong programs. It has been great for College Football, imo.

Living in Pac-12 country I'm quite enjoying it. I'm good if the B1G wins every game except for Northwestern.

Yep, I'm with you here. Living in Chicago, can't stand the media hype. But, they probably have the easiest match up, so they should win. I'll just add that to my suffering as an Illini fan :(

Yep, not sure how they got such a fortuitous matchup, but I'm hoping UK travels well (they should since they rarely make a bowl game and won't have to travel far) and at least makes it seem like an almost home for UK (was gonna say Wildcats, but then that would have been confusing!).

UGH I live near St. Louis... The SEC hype is super annoying! If UK beats Northwestern, Ill be hearing about it for 6 months

I live in Southeastern Illinois. I see way too much Kentucky hype particularly in basketball. Go Wildcats- Northwestern Wildcats.

Northwestern wins 24-23 on a failed two-point conversion by Kentucky.

The Buckeyes slap USC around 24-7, Big Ten now 5-0. Maybe that means in the grand scheme that Illinois isn't that bad after all! :hailtotheorange:

That was what the media kept saying too but it was only s lopsided score due to turnovers. Without turnovers, USC dominated that game.

Something to think about regarding the B1G bowl success this year ...

Bowls are all about match-ups, and because the B1G doesn't have a team in the playoffs, that pushes all of their teams down one slot from where they would normally be. Add in the fact that the SEC has two teams in the playoffs and their teams are all bumped *up* a notch. That helps to explain their 0-3 record so far.

If Ohio State had made it into the playoffs, they would be facing Clemson instead of USC, and all of the other B1G teams would be facing better opponents as well.

So while I do think it's nice that the B1G is winning all these bowl games, it doesn't necessarily prove that they deserved to have a team in the playoffs. It is probably an effect of them not having a team in the playoffs.
