B1G vs. B1G* final, each defeating an SEC/SEC* team. I'll take it.

National Championship game.

OLD Big Ten vs. NEW Big Ten.

Rust Belt Big Ten vs. High Tech Big Ten

Motown and 'House' Big Ten vs. Grunge Big Ten

City of Starbucks vs. General Motors

Eastern Time Zone Big Ten vs. Pacific Time Zone Big Ten

(State of) American Robin vs. Willow Gold Finch

Eastern White Pine vs. Western Hemlock

Brook Trout vs. Steelhead Trout

WhiteTailed Deer vs. Orca

Maize & Blue vs. Purple & Gold

Jim Harbaugh vs. THE WORLD

And from the Jersey Shore to the salty beaches of Southern California... the rest of the Big Ten looks on with envy and figures out how they will try to compete in the New Big Ten which just raised its high level of play to yet another level.

Here's the next thing that the rest of the Big Ten now has to deal with...

“Ticket sold in Michigan wins $842M Powerball jackpot”

To a Michigan fan maybe? That’s a WHOLE lotta NIL money right there that might have just opened up for the Maize and Blue. As if they needed any more help.

“You mean the nation’s capital?” vs. “You mean that part’s not Wisconsin?”

Playing the games on New Year’s Day definitely helped.

One of the enjoyable things about the Rose Bowl from lovely Pasadena in the San Gabriel Mountain foothills is that it is very often played in warm and beautifully sunny weather. And often, much of the rest of the United States is NOT that way but cold and blustery on that day (but not always).

And so even if you didn’t particularly like the game matchup you’d turn the game on to see bright sunshine and palm trees and people dressed for beach weather. And dream of feeling that way yourself.

And then you’d go outside at halftime and shovel two feet of snow off your driveway and ask yourself why. But then you’d remember that most of the throngs of people packed into the stadium are getting sunburned and hot out there. So there's that.

So you’d go back outside again and shovel some more... but still wish you could be sitting there to see those San Gabriels (mountains) up close like you can when the smog is not too thick.

And you wished again that it was the Orange & Blue you were watching instead of 'THEE'... or any of those other uniforms.

Something that I also think adds to the atmosphere is how with a 2:00 Pacific kickoff, the game starts in the bright sun, hits twilight in the second half and ends as darkness has fallen.
