I did not really think IU was in danger of missing out on the playoffs even with their loss yesterday, but assuming they don't lose to Purdue they have to be a lock when you figure Alabama and Ole Miss are likely on the outside looking in after their losses.

All that being said, we are as close to a lock on one of these FL bowls as you can get. Safe to say this season has probably exceeding even the expectations of even the most optimistic among us.

At this point it’s more important Big ten gets 4 teams in CFP then us winning but we need to win to cap off a 9-3 season which is extremely rare.
It would be fitting for Bryant to cap off his amazing Illini career with a big day at a historic venue. I really can't see Bryant playing in the bowl game at this point. He needs to prep for his career on Sundays.

ESPN.com bowl projections, both of which have Illini playing in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl:

-Bonagura: vs. Alabama
-Schlabach: vs. South Carolina
I know I am a broken record here and fully recognize that Alabama will have a ton of opt outs.. but the South Carolina match up makes so much more sense for this team. Still a good SEC match up that will be great for both teams. South Carolina is really good, has a great QB and has only lost to really good teams so far this year. I just feel this would be a good match up and a great game for both sides. I don't know if I feel the same for Alabama.

I’d feel like Bama would have a ton of opt outs. Everyone is disappointed. Likely to not play hard where SC will likely be super excited and their QB is really good. After Bama’s performance against OU, I wouldn’t be as fearful as I normally would be. Beating Bama would be a nice feather in the cap. Beating SC is good but not the same cache value.

Depends on what happens next week. If Alabama loses to Auburn than they could slip to the ReliaQuest Bowl.

if Schlabach has SoCar in the Citrus Bowl
i’m curious whete he has Ole Miss , Bama , A&M and Tennessee , assuming Texas & Ga are locks for the CFP

Valid point. I have no clue what the bench looks like for Bama beyond the starters. I would assume still pretty good talent overall.

Just looked up official Citrus Bowl packages. $665 for the end zone section, with no option to select specific seats. It escalates rapidly from there. For anyone buying on premium site, BIG team seats are on the west side. There is no additional charge to watch with friends and family at home. Given how crazy I-4 will be, pretty sure we’re going with the latter option.

My buddy who is a Bama fan says their depth isn’t what it normally is but no doubt it’s still very good.

Dick - say it ain't so! (A reaction to your user name, not name calling.)

What sections are on the west side / BIG TEN?

Also, wait until late December and tickets should be less (and likely much less) on the online resellers (Vivid Seats, SeatGeek, etc.) - assuming the other team isn't close by and gobbles up tickets. When Illinois starts selling tickets, they may be less from the athletic department, too.

The hidden fee of watching at home is missing out on an amazing personal experience. (My son and I will remember the Rutgers win for a long, long time.) If you live in Florida, come to the game!

Go Illini!
