Alabama beat Georgia at Georgia early in the season and played a top 10 schedule.
if they get their injuries back, they'll be in the semi's. Ohio st and Indiana don't want that
match up in the second round.

oh, and are you telling me the selection committee doesn't want ND in the field? the weak
sisters in the bracket will be out soon . (james madison and tulane)
I’m most intrigued by the weak sisters to be honest, outside of any Illini involvement

Then we’d have to investigate those schools lol

I’m already suspecting AI is involved. 🤣

You guys can argue resumes all you want. Most of the time that's just splitting hairs IMO. My issue is the committee has no process that they stick with. From year to year, and even week to week, they put an emphasis on something different. They need to take notes from the March Madness committee on being transparent and stick to a well known process.

they did it because it’s revenue neutral at best
and
they don’t want the risk of losing to BYU with so little upside

it’s not “sticking it to the man”
they are the man

I think ND, KSU and ISU look pretty petty.

But I wonder if opting out is playing the long game to push expanded playoffs. Will bowl games outside the playoffs exist in another 5 years?
If 8-4 teams are turning down invites with the domino effect that 5-7 teams are getting in, then yes, some of those bowls will die. I wonder if television will start to payout riders in based on quality. Georgia Southern vs. A 5-7 team? Who watches?

why would ACC keep the alliance if not beneficial to them ?
You mean this alliance?

All Bowls need to disappear except the big ones: Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl, and Fiesta Bowl.

That gets you 8 more teams, I'm not against keeping the Cotton Bowl and Peach Bowl and allowing the top 24 teams to play, but with so many top players opting out, and so many bowls, I personally don't waste my time watching any of them unless Illinois is playing. The playoffs are what matters now.

I think it’s been a lot better on the basketball side with the NET and quad system in recent years. but there were a lot of years where the basketball selection committee was all over the map and emphasized different metrics each year.

I think the basketball selection committee realized the need for a more consistent process. Football needs a similar moment.

those low level bowls are money losers . i’m guessing the B12 is not making up the shortfall from the payout .

sucks for the lads .

All bowls are pointless. I do not know where the dividing line is between “this doesn’t matter, but let’s go have a great time!” and “this doesn’t matter, why would we put ourselves through that?” but I’m confident that the Music City Bowl is on one side of that line and the Birmingham Bowl is on the other.
Bowls matter. The extra practices matter.

In the NFL you could go 11-6 and not even get in to the playoffs. Your season is just done.

The only reason they start to not matter is because you can churn out a whole roster with NIL money and not have to worry about developing players.

Except that developing players still matters. Good coaching still matters.

Money has made this game into a shell of itself. It's about branding and hypothetical strength of conferences, and strength of records.

It's hardly become about playing FOOTBALL.

Those extra practices matter a lot less in the portal era.

Why would a 5-7 team accept a bowl bid? The money for going to the bowl is going to be terrible, and it’s multiple weeks that the coaches can’t be planning for next year.

Extra practice made sense before NIL, but a 5-7 team is likely to have a lot of new players next year. Who cares about extra practices for players who won’t be there next year.
