Let's say that Gonzaga loses to BYU or Santa Clara or San Francisco before Michigan plays their next game. Does ScUM end up moving up the rankings again into one of the top two spots in the bracket?
I doubt it. If Gonzaga loses tonight my guess is they swap with Baylor. Michigan's resume is nowhere close to Gonzaga even with Gonzaga losing one.

Agreed, although the Iowa and Kansas wins aren't quite as impressive as they were two months ago.

And like clockwork, Baylor just postponed 3 more games... All of them against ranked opponents (Texas Tech and WVU twice).
This season gets wackier and wackier.

The top teams are afraid to lose their luster.

I fully expect Michigan to lose a few games even with being afraid to play the Illini, and postponing for a week. Do we know if any Michigan players had COVID? If so, they might be hampered for awhile.

I'm not even sure any players are even in protocol. The new COVID variant is spreading around Ann Arbor, which is why they have closed down the campus.

I remember reading 20+ student athletes tested positive, but they didn’t divulge which athletes and which sports.

If the basketball team did have players who were ill I’d be more sympathetic to their postponement.

They specifically mentioned conditioning being the reason, and I’m disappointed the BIG is allowing them to postpone if that’s it. Nothing is stopping them from playing a deeper bench to make up for it.

If Michigan does not play Wisconsin, then no, they should move down. We are getting to the point, whether it’s in their control or not, of entering out of sight, out of mind territory. 3 weeks without a game is an eternity during the season.
Think of 3 weeks ago in our season, we were at gut check time. Now we have a completely new narrative.

It was Thomas Kithier... Haven't heard about the results of his test. I read that 13 (!) of their 15 players have tested positive so far this season.

I do realize this means very little but Eamonn Brennan over at The Athletic does his Bubble Watch column every week. He made Illinois and OSU locks this week, to go along with Baylor and Gonzaga. Yes, it's just Brennan, but it still feels good to have the media recognize that Illinois has one of the 4 or 5 best resumes in the country again. It's been a long time.

This redditor runs a simulation after each ESPN bracketology prediction. This is the second time Illinois has won the NCAA tournament in his simulation, also the only team so far to win twice. Might as well crown us champs lol.

I wonder what goes into the simulation. Minnesota and UNC in the elite eight are a real stretch. Although I do love beating Missouri in the tourney.

I think his simulations have also had us involved in two first round upsets. Feast or famine. I do like this result better!

Unless something unexpected happens Gonzaga and Baylor would be the #1 and #2 overall seeds. They would play in brackets with the two worst 2 seeds (#7 & 8 overall). If we could get one of the top two 2 seeds, we'd play in the bracket with one of the other two 1 seeds
Everyone is assuming that we would automatically get the top #2 seeds. You all have more faith in the selection committee than I do.

Also, there’s the fact that the top 4 teams from a conference have to be placed in different regions if they are a top 4 seed. Basically, we could be forced into a Baylor or Gonzaga bracket as a 2 seed if both UM and OSU got one seeds
