Also, there’s the fact that the top 4 teams from a conference have to be placed in different regions if they are a top 4 seed. Basically, we could be forced into a Baylor or Gonzaga bracket as a 2 seed if both UM and OSU got one seeds
That rule is not a rule for this season. Since tournament is all in Indy and the year overall is rushed, they are pretty much going to seed teams by the S-curve (1 to 64, other rules be damned), and focus on just having the tourney.

I believe the OP was correct:

"Though the S-curve seeding method will be followed, some exceptions will apply based on the following longstanding principles:
  • Each of the top four teams selected from a conference shall be placed in different regions if they are seeded on the first four lines."

I see, that's still one of the exceptions to the S-curve seeding.

Yeah, I thought it was almost straight S-curve as well and then I found that. I doubt both OSU and Mich end up 1 seeds, but it is something to think about, at least. We basically need to get ahead of 1 of those 2 teams.

Who cares if we get matched up with Gonzaga or Baylor. Frankly, if we want to win it all we have to go through one of those teams most likely at some point in the tourney so whether its in the elite 8 or final four I don't think matters all that much.

The later we are slotted to potentially meet them, the less likely they get there (even if it's a small chance they lose) and adding a Final Four banner to the SFC would be pretty dang cool even if we don't win the national championship, IMO.

Fair enough. I think if we beat OSU a one seed is still very much in play. If we beat Michigan and OSU its basically a lock. If we lose to Michigan we have to hope they lose a couple times to other teams because overall I think our resume is better.

This redditor runs a simulation after each ESPN bracketology prediction. This is the second time Illinois has won the NCAA tournament in his simulation, also the only team so far to win twice. Might as well crown us champs lol.

If this were to actually happen, I'd have to double check whether the election really was stolen by the late Hugo Chavez, or that space lasers started the Cali wild fires. Not that I'd care given the final result....

Duke dropped to 76th in NET and Penn State dropped to 31st. That cost us 2 Q1 wins for the moment. I know most of us are taking joy in Duke's season, but we could use them to win more games here down the stretch.

A lot of basketball to be played, but 2 B1G teams at the 1 seed is very possible. The conference isn't just the strongest this year, but one of the strongest of all time. I think the committee will always favor that over teams like Houston.

Goal is to be one of the top 2 B1G teams and in the top 6 overall -- then you avoid Baylor and Zags.

If it's close, committee may just use the 2 teams that make it to the finals of B1G tourney.

Wait, did you just say it doesn't matter if we make the Final Four? Unfortunately, we're not Duke where all we care about it NC's - I think we very much care about FF's - so if we can avoid the Gonzaga or Baylor bracket the much higher likelihood we have of making a FF, which would be huge for the program, for BU and all the players. Which means us being able to play and beat Michigan would be a step to getting a #1 seed and avoiding the top 2 teams this year until the FF

I read that as...it doesn't matter if we meet Baylor/Gonzaga in the E8 or FF, we still will likely need to go through at least one of them to win the national championship.

I'm not sure where exactly Illinois will end up, but I do put them on the very short list of teams that have a realistic shot at beating Baylor or Gonzaga and ruining the country's dream final.

I didn't think they cared about conference matchups past the sweet 16. I can recall some regional final games between conference opponents.

There is a potential that there are more than 4 big 10 teams on top four lines. Then they would have to put more than one of those in same region. Of course if the Hawkeyes continue their free fall they won't be a top 4 😁

It also looks like whether or not we have the B1G tournament could also impact seeding for the NCAA tournament. That's interesting.

If our only chance of meeting Michigan is the final of the B1G tournament, I surely hope it will be held. The winner could get the last one seed and the loser the top 2 seed. In that scenario I think the loser would get Gonzaga or Baylor in the Elite Eight.

That would depend what happens to OSU. If the 4th 1 seed was another non-Big Ten 1 seed, like Villanova, the loser would get the 2 seed in their region in your scenario.

Would it be preferable to play Baylor again or go against Gonzaga that we haven't seen in a little while?
