I still remember losing at Kentucky in 84 and it makes me angry. Then there was 2001.
I agree- both up there in my top 10 brutal losses. Kentucky because we had to play it on their home court (which they changed the rule because of that game). BTW, for years I was angry by the non- travel call at the end of the game but then seeing it recently I’m not so sure

2001 I was there in San Antonio and the officiating was quite possibly worse than the ‘05 championship where essentially the refs determined thee outcome based on how they decided to call the game.

I saw the Kentucky game inn1984 with the questionable non call on Beal, but can someone refresh my memory about the 2001 game ?
was that the game against Arizona where the foul disparity was like 25 to 7 ?

For funzies, I took a look at our resume, using the bracket matrix for strength of opponent, which I think is fairly definitive given how far into the season we are. For me, this emphasizes how the team's Q1 wins are impressive in both quantity and quality. The losses even look a bit better IMO, seeing how they progressed as the season went on. I think the only team that can potentially threaten us for the last #1 seed is Alabama, and I'm not convinced they can do it even if they win out through their conference tournament, given the difference in strength of the BIG vs SEC.

are all locks for #1 seed

is michigan a lock if they lose today and lose next Friday or next Saturday ?
Think you are spot on there GilThorpe , IMHO I think Michigan is locked in at #1 also...
Luanardi was pretty adamant on last nights article , saying how much of a "clear cut" he thinks the #1 seeds are , still with a week left of playing games and conference tourneys not yet being finished.

Was just looking at Lunardi’s brackets, and I would be very happy if it actually fell like that:

Nichols State/Prarie View
LSU/UConn
Virginia/Texas Tech
W Va/Alabama

Not a bad route to Final Four
I wouldn’t want Virginia or Texas Tech in the Sweet 16. Beard and Bennett are top 5 coaches in the country, and they each can slow it down and play a muck it up game.

LSU or UConn wouldn’t be difficult. Bama is feast or famine on 3s, and West Virginia with Huggins would be very easy to prepare for.

Of all those teams, Texas Tech and Virginia concern me the most. Just cuz their coaches and style is what we’ve struggled with at times this year.

6 of our players fouled out- 6!

lute Olson went on a PR campaign leading up to the game on how physical we play and how the refs needed to take control of the game from the start- and it clearly worked. One of the most egregious displays of refs kowtowing to a coach I’ve ever seen

I get what you're saying, but Wisconsin likes to do the same thing and we handled them. We've shown a pretty good ability to speed up teams whose goal it is to slow us down.

We can beat anyone in the country. We could also lose to some pretty bad teams, though. That's what worries me more than running up against another good team.

Just saying... we would blow Loyola out. They look very ordinary on defense. Not much athleticism on the wings.
