Every Big Ten team has 1 game remaining in the regular season this weekend. 7 games- that's 128 possible combinations of outcomes.

This crazy tweet mapped out all 128 Big Ten Tournament scenarios.

44 out of 128 (34.4%) combinations give Illinois the double-bye (top 4 finish). Illinois must win at Purdue for a chance at the double-bye.

If Illinois does indeed pull out a tough victory at Purdue on Sunday, the IL double-bye is not yet guaranteed but there will be a path.

It will all come down to the 3:30pm Mich-Ind game to decide IL's fate, then there's a possibility that we'll have rooting interest in the 6:30pm Rut-NW game. (The 6:30pm Minn-Wisc game won't matter for IL.) So who do we want to win in those late games? We won't know until OSU-MSU Mar-PSU Iow-Neb are decided. Fun stuff. Go Illini

I love all the positivity, but with this team this year, those positive scenarios will not play out. I sincerely hope I am wrong, though.

I'll just be ecstatic with a win over Michigan at this point. A Purdue loss should not hurt their seeding for the NCAA tournament.

Win a game or two in the Big Ten tournament and just maybe the 8/9th seed will be avoided.
Historically, the BTT has very little to do with seeding in the Big Dance. Year after year, the talking heads talk to the Committee chair and he says the seeds were pretty well determined in advance. Obviously, a team that wins the BTT that wouldn’t have otherwise qualified is an exception, but no major moves in seeding take place because of the results of the BTT.

Thanks for the info! I guess I will have to accept the 8/9th seed with the winner playing Kansas or UCLA because it makes for a good proverbial storyline. Who knows, maybe the upset PU on Sunday.

There’s no team in the nation we cannot beat. There’s no team in the nation we can be sure of defeating. Based on the results of this year only, your best bet is to assume the worst and hope for the very best. I have a hard time thinking we can play 6 great games in a row; three in a row would establish a new paradigm. Still, I’ll be there for every game, dying just a little with every missed 3 pointer. GO ILLINI !!

Behind the Scenes: How the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee Really Works

"At multiple times during the week—partially to account for results of conference tournaments and partially just for quality assurance—the committee goes through a "scrubbing process." This consists of starting at the very top of the list and comparing No. 1 overall to No. 2 overall to decide if they should be swapped. Then it's on to No. 2 vs. No. 3, and so on down the line. If six of the 10 committee members vote for a swap, it happens, and then the newly higher-seeded team is immediately compared to the team now above it to determine if it should climb any higher."

Yes you are both right. Historically conference tournament outcome have little impact on NCAA seeding but they are a factor

This year with so many teams being close Conference tournament games could be a tie breaker. However as the conference tournament goes on games have less and less impact

If we win the conference tournament we aren’t going to be a 4 seed

This is my dream job. I consider myself highly qualified because of the million hours of CBB I have watched.

The early games definitely matter. The committee is meeting all day, every day through the conference tournaments.
