I said when it was announced that I didn't like getting matched up with FAU in the preseason and people treated me like I was nuts. Yet we would be in solid 2 seed territory if we beat someone with a similar preseason ranking that plays in a major conference instead.
In fairness if that team were half as good as they were thought to be they'd be like 31-2

Sure, but that was my issue. They returned almost everyone but they were still a mid-major team with a Cinderella run. I just judged that the possibility they regressed was pretty high. Not necessarily likely, but high enough that the game was kind of risky.

Imagine we had lost that game. We would be staring down like a 6 seed right now.

MSU is still probably in, but gonna be a nervous next 16 hours or so for them
MSU at least has the solid NET ranking to assuage their fears. Northwestern could be in for a nervous night, though.

Nebraska is safely in, though, 7 or 8 seed.

MSU should objectively not be in the tournament. 55th in WAB and 49th in SOR, both out of at large range. But because of their name and their NET ranking, which the committee selectively decides when it is important (hello Houston in 2022), they will get in.

N-Baylor and us are two big splashy wins that other teams on the bubble don't have.

One other thing of note as I'm doing my own personal little bracketology here tonight...I'm not sure Northwestern is safely in the tournament. They have a 55 NET, their resume is sketchy aside from the Purdue win, and they haven't been as good with their injury situation.
. . . "Purdue win" . . . and the Illini win, too. ;)

His job is pretty similar to that of a TV meteorologist. He doesn't have to be right, just has to generate interest and discussion.
TV meteorologists are actually pretty accurate these days (modeling has improved considerably), but most people just get the forecast on their phones so no one notices.

Heading into Sunday, and with no math involved..........instead, just a hunch.

82% chance - 3 seed
10% chance - 4 seed
8% chance - 2 seed (Tennessee and Marquette might now be susceptible)

What happened to everyone saying we had a 3 seed wrapped up if we won today against O$U? Why do we have to win tomorrow too now?

IMO, we will be a 4 unless we go to the Championship game...only because we are Illinois. Anyone else would already be a 3 seed.
Illinois is a good basketball brand with a large fan base that delivers good ratings and travels well … come on, the Committee isn’t out to get us, lol…
