I always wondered what that was about.
you don't have to dig real hard on the internet to find out.

Edit - I just looked again, looks like all has been scrubbed. Couldn't find the video or articles detailing the events. It wasn't good.

I'm going to say I like the move, but I don't love it. Is Brad worthy of being paid in the top 10 nationally at this point? He's a very good recruiter, not great. He's a good coach, not great. He has been outcoached many times and has he had a top 10 recruiting class yet?

You make some good points. I think what Brad does at a top 10 level is identify talent. I'd love for him to start getting some top 20 guys, but he's shown he can bring in guys that win a lot of games.

He's certainly been out-coached in some games, but most coaches have bad games, even the best coaches. And it seems he learns from his failures and keeps improving.

Brad Underwood’s first 4 years at Illinois:
14-18
12-21
21-10
24-7
Mike Krzyzewski’s first 4 years at Duke
17-13
10-17
11-17
24-10
Listen, I am NOT saying BU is Coach K, nor will he ever be. I am only saying it takes time and the needle is pointing in the right direction from all angles. Is he worth the money? I don’t know but I like the move because it creates stability within the program which promotes continued progression.

And to follow that theme...

Lou Henson's first four years at Illinois...
14-13
16-14
13-14
17-11

I also do not know if BU is worth the money, but I like the move as well for all the reasons you stated. And, I do think he is worth the money, especially the way the buyout is written.

Whether he's worth that kind of money or not, time will tell...and if Illinois continues to contend for B10 championships and advance in the tourney in March, people will look back and agree that the extension was a good thing.
