Switching between here and Scout, can't help noticing that it appears to be 80-20 pro here and 20-80 there. Looks a little closer there, but mainly because of 3-4 posters.

By the way, I am really happy. Never expected him to be available, just like Bryce Drew, just because of the one year.
The OSU boards are pretty much in full meltdown mode which probably gives the best story.

So, what will BFU's role be during the NIT? Sit on the sidelines with the team? Or perhaps with JW in a suite? Just curious how this will shake out.

Well he's got to tie up loose ends in Oklahoma and move his family to IL. I'm sure he's gonna want to act quickly so he can start working with his new team and staff full time ASAP. Thinking he won't be much involved with the NIT.

Scout has more People magazine readers.

Somehow, this hire feels completely different than Groce. Sure, in the Dark hours before the announcement, some fans were beginning to freak out (that was familiar), everything else seems much more organized and calculated.

No leaks, no fumbling. Well played and executed by Whitman. Underwood seems like a much higher ceiling type guy. I like his background alot more than Groce's. Groce always seemed like the perfect assistant coach but never really ready for the big time. Underwood is ready, and has been putting his hardhat on every stop he's made.

I really like his Henson Connection. Somehow that gives me a lot of confidence that we are getting a good one. We never really got any sort of endorsement like that for Groce.

All I need now is an Isaiah Martinez win tonight and my Illini scale is full throttle for the day. Happy Wisconsin earned the Big Ten some more respect (and Villanova lost a little), that Northwestern lost, and now the Underwood hire. Almost a perfect day for me.

What's the Henson connection?

Yes, they are. And it would appear (at least to me) that the posters there are mostly upset with AD Mike Holder for letting Coach Underwood get away.

Just to add, and I don't mean to hit the breaks on everyone's enthusiasm. Brad Underwood would not have been my, or most peoples', first choice, especially compared to some bigger names like Bennett, Archie, or Monty. But given the state of the program, he may be a good hire.

On the positive side, his style of play is very attractive, his teams also play very hard.

On the negative side, recruiting is a question mark. Keeping the recruiting class, and probably adding a player or two may help him gain some time to re-establish some connections in the area.

I would prefer this guy over any of the aforementioned...

I was chatting with his son as well who was born in Illinois and said Dee Brown and the Illini were his favorite team when his dad was coaching at Western. The family seems to really love Illinois and are glad to be back here.

Thanks for sharing - interesting to here that he was basically a natural fit, softy for Illinois and nobody knew about it. That's so important.

Recruiting was going to be a question mark with anyone except for those A-list guys. And as most of us know, those guys were highly unlikely to come here.

So you think Underwood is our type?

(That's one for the old guys.)

(I crack myself up.)

Recruiting is always a question mark outside the larger programs. Getting into the tournament helps. If BU can keep this class together and make the tournament, we'll be off to a strong start.

Now that the initial flush and excitement of the Illini hire has settled in, may I extend some caring and compassion to all you OK State fans out there. If anybody knows how you feel tonight, it is Illini fans. This feeling will pass. Hope you won't have to wait as long as we did to feel better. Now, back on the flush and excitement...
