I'd pay to sit down and have a couple of beers with Huggy, Martin, and Underwood. They remind me of 3 of a kind.

It would be hard to say "no" to a shot with those three peer pressuring you...

If that is so then fantastic. I am a big fan of the grit and toughness of Huggy and Martin teams.

three guys that are very old school in looks at least.

Underwood in particular is right out of central casting as your opposition basketball coach, opposite your token movie star coach in any basketball movie you wish to make.

in 13 months ago BU is making 300,000 as hc at SFA. Today is one of the top 12 paid coaches in the game.

Mr Underwood, your table is ready.
His wife goes from wondering if she can justify buying the $125 pair of shoes at the Belks in Stillwater to being jetted to Midway on a donors plane and walking into Nieman Marcus on Michigan Avenue and not thinking twice about the $800 pair of Jimmy Choo's.

crazy world we live in. If you would have told me 8 days ago that we would be hiring a 53 year old white guy with 4 years HC experience total, I would have told you NFW.

Is this english?
While not perfect grammar, I understood his post perfectly. And as far as I know, I don't speak any other languages... :thumb:

As far as the content of his post, yeah, it's pretty crazy to see a guy make that jump so quickly. His salary has gone up to roughly 7.5 times what it was 13 months ago.

Still completely stunned and excited about this hire. I was in the camp that didn't give him a thought because of his short time at Oklahoma St. Looking to be the exact person we needed, and I was on Bennett but feel even better about this. To me he feels like a John Beilein type coach with a little bit of a tough edge. Man this is going to get fun!

I wonder how the KSU AD and fans feel. If Weber doesn't leak into the tourney last minute, how likely would he have been canned and our new coach would be in Manhattan?

Does that mean the cards actually fell in Illinois' favor for once? About darn time!

Looking forward to watching what Brad Underwood can do for this program. It is pretty cool that this was not a highly discussed guy prior to the hire.

Welcome to Illinois Coach Underwood!

Go Illini

My favorite part of this article,

"Then Illinois came calling, and athletic director Josh Whitman sold Underwood on how much the Illini value basketball, saying Illinois wants to have the top program in the nation. “What I just heard from my boss,” Underwood told the source, “we want a program about equal to Iowa State, Texas Tech and Kansas State.”

That is what I want, Illinois to have the top program in the nation :)

I just love it that JW goes ahead and announces the hire before the "official one week waiting period" is over.

He's not going to wait for T Boone to pony up and match. He couldn't. If word of that potential hire would have leaked, there is a decent chance it doesn't happen.

That's the difference between JW doing the hire on his own and MT engaging a search firm and leaks galore. MT had some fatal flaws in his style and approach to this process and we paid the price dearly .

The search firm thing is much ado about nothing.

Whitman's circumvention of HR red tape is not. That is the mark of a DIA that is being allowed to operate within the standards of its industry, and that is a very, very positive sign.

Yeah, this just seems like it was a bad situation. That's the advantage of having a good AD to work with and a bunch of money. Somebody somewhere you wouldn't expect is going to see that grass as much greener.

You are the one who kept saying the $$$ didn't matter. Looks like it mattered a whole lot. :D
