Their job is to create controversy anyway they can, so they can generate a bunch of irate UI people to call in an vent, and then the radio host , be it Bernstein or the other jerk flavor of the hour, can trip the caller up and make the caller sound like an idiot while they can come across as "smart".
No one else listening gives a rats azz whether BU was first choice or last choice. seriously. no one cares except UI fans. SCR just wants you to listen, they don't care if what they say is really officially true or not. They would be saying the same thing if we had nabbed Tony Bennett or the Wizard of Westwood.

I've been to Stillwater a couple of times and JW would definitely not be blending based on what I saw.

Love that the article states that we are the only major conference university in the state of Illinois. Though it would be a lot funnier if NW hadn't made the tourney.

Underwood and Evans recruited a lot of that squad that just beat Duke.
I assumed that the difference in the passion for basketball between the 2 schools was a big selling point.
Didn't even remember about NW when I read that. Said to myself, "huh, that's right."

Thanks for sharing. Always a good sign when the program you just poached is lamenting how it was handled on their end, and pointing fingers about losing him. Kind of how a lot of Illini fans felt when they lost $elf.
For the old timers out there, I'm picturing the early 60's Illini with Tal Brody, Dave Downey, Bogie Redmon and Skip Thoren (conference champs in 62/63). I'll never be convinced that you HAVE to play slow down defensive basketball in order to win in the BIG. In addition to the flyin Illini and the 2005 team those early 60's teams were possibly some of the most entertaining that we have ever had. Always love outscoring the other team rather than trying to shut them down.
