Bret Bielema Signs New Six-Year Contract

Yep I always looked at Illinois as a basketball school but with JW and the commitment they have been making to the Football program I can honestly say I've viewing UofI as a BB & FB school and I'm loving it.
That would be great. Even if they are annually in the picture as competitive or winners, I think Illinois will still be a BB school. What I have said to my Pittsburgh family is that Illinois has enough history, resouces, capacity, tradition, alumni, etc. to beome a very relavant FB school. But, I don't think Pitt will ever be a relevant BB school. Man, do they start foaming at the mouth with that one

ok
Im gonna say it
he's fighting weight accucmulation just like I have and many of us have.

as soon as the bowl game is over, for his own sake and his family's, he needs to get serious and drop 50 pounds next year
it sucks. Ive ridden the roller coaster myself . at some point in life you simply need to stop eating some things and stop drinking some things
I was going to say something similar. If Underwood can do it, so can BB! Best way to motivate?

Weight loss clause in the contract! :) For everyone's sake, but especially his...

P.S. I'm sure this isn't legal, haha.

Yeah, the potential is absolutely there. When analyzing potential, it is difficult (but necessary IMO) to try not to weigh recent results too heavily, as fans naturally become more engaged and show up more and support the program more financially when you are winning games. One would be foolish to think of Iowa or Wisconsin as inherently more "big time" than Illinois ... they have just strung together the types of consistent winning seasons that get fans engaged and willing to show up and spend money every year - the same thing we have achieved with our basketball fan base and something that is absolutely achievable with our football fan base, as well!

As a reasonably older gentleman, I agree on this 100% I'm good with my weight and working out, but have been very bad with too much beer. Finally cut that out too and the body and mind feel so much better. It sucks not drinking beer, but I've had more than my fill over the years - and that stuff will kill you.
Maybe let Tank be his personal trainer!?

You want to kill him?

Seriously, I hope the death of Mike Leach serves as something of a wake-up call for BB to get healthy and stay healthy. He's a workaholic in a high-stress profession, where it's a big challenge to exercise, eat and sleep right, etc. when you're moving at 100 mph 16 hours a day. But It's not impossible... obviously lots of coaches manage to stay fit with the same work demands.

Where does this place him in the Big Ten? 5-7 range?
thats about right
exact details have not been released - so we dont know if hes getting more per year right away or not. but from most information we have today, hes right about in the middle of the league.

at this point, its all the other non-paycheck things in the arrangement that matter. staff , NIL , etc.
He certainly cant complain about facilities nor his paycheck

Guys it’s non of our business. Drop it
Just commenting, not prying. As Illini fans, I doubt we'll never not care about the health and well-being of our coaches and players, past and present.

In other news, I haven't seen any details yet on Henry's contract. Assume that's coming soon (or I missed it).
With Bret being the highest paid public employee in the State of Illinois and the leader of the D-1 football program at the state's flagship university, I think his general health and wellbeing is a little bit of our business. At the end of the day though, I think we all just want coach to be well so he can lead us to the mountain top and celebrate that natty in 2027!

I’m too dang lazy to look it up, but I thought he was in the top 15ish range nationally when we hired him. I wonder where this puts him in that ranking.

It's completely between Bret and his family. Just to calm some down though, Bret did say during his press conference announcing AH as coordinator that they were on a walk together when he broke the news to Henry. Doesn't sound like Bret is ignoring his own well-being.
